The right tool for the job AKA new tool day
Simple and cheap, but oh so neat. I ordered the Shimano cantilever brake adjustment set from eBay and was so happy to set up my brakes correctly. I am not new to turning a wrench, but on bicycles I am.
It’s amazing how simple it is to set up old school canti’s correctly with these. I also found out that I have the wrong length straddle cable for one of my bikes thanks to the paperwork.

super easy to use. Match the color jig to the brakes one is working on. Pull the cable taught and tighten the bolt once the jig is touching both cantis. The kit comes with a clear card that allows one to check that the length and angle is correct.
then you adjust the pads per instructions.

I've never seen that before. I've successfully set up cantis by eye dozens of times, but that gauge set would certainly take any guesswork out of it.

It was $8 total shipped from Colorado and the jigs are a nice hard plastic and made in Japan.
I have 3 80’s/90’s MTB at the moment, so it makes my least favorite part of a bike setup easier.
