Results: We report that mice fed either low- or high-fat diets in a contiguous manner during the 12 h awake/active period adjust both food intake and energy expenditure appropriately, such that metabolic parameters are maintained within a normal physiologic range. In contrast, fluctuation in dietary composition during the active period (as occurs in human beings) markedly influences whole body metabolic homeostasis. Mice fed a high-fat meal at the beginning of the active period retain metabolic flexibility in response to dietary challenges later in the active period (as revealed by indirect calorimetry). Conversely, consumption of high-fat meal at the end of the active phase leads to increased weight gain, adiposity, glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperleptinemia (that is cardiometabolic syndrome) in mice. The latter perturbations in energy/metabolic homeostasis are independent of daily total or fat-derived calories.

Conclusions: The time of day at which carbohydrate versus fat is consumed markedly influences multiple cardiometabolic syndrome parameters.

Moral of the story, eating more fat during breakfast will let you burn more fat throughout the day.

I need to get back on my diet. Easter and decreased hours leading up to Battenkill has led to me being up by 5-10lbs...no bueno.

That's my problem. Maybe I should be eating like this for breakfast:

- hot sauerkraut
-green/white is Austrian style potato salad
-rye bread covered with liverwurst
-smoked sausage
-meatloaf
-more sausage, bratwurst and weisswurst
-schnitzel underneath all that

True, but my issue is that I do most of my riding in the morning and I can't ride on an empty stomach or a stomach full of fat. In a perfect world, I'd have two breakfasts: low fat pre-ride and high fat after.

try low fat high carb immediately after, then 1-2 hours after your post ride meal, bring some more fat into your diet as you fade away from starch carbs.

I like oats, fruit and pro powder after ride.

then 1-2 hours later I go at a huge salad with fatty fish or lean meat with an egg and some feta cheese.

I'm feeling back on track. Consistently running a small caloric deficit everyday and the weight is trending down. Could be at target weight by May Day.

Lose 5 more lbs and you will be perfect.

Just kidding. I wish I was that lean.

That is what one my friends was told after she nearly killed herself to lose the 10lbs her ballet instructor wanted her to lose. She was so happy that she lost them and when she told the instructor about it, she was told to lose 5 more lbs. Luckily she quit ballet.

I'm in the process of restocking my energy supplies for the next two days workouts.

I need to buy a scale.

155 this morning, getting closer where I want to be [71 inches tall]. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the 200 miles I've ridden in the past 4 days.

This morning I pulled on the pants to a suit I bought for my first job out of law school. The waist was loose. That is the most awesome thing.

The good news is that I'm at 159. The bad news (or is it better news) is that if I were that lean I would probably weight more like 150.
