Isn't it about time to re-cork the spit valve?

Only when you're trying to either sell it, or convince yourself it doesn't look old and worn out. e.g. "I love the patina on this watch dial that I can't read!"

Yes, and they listen. When I was younger and cars were just mechanical things the problem with male customers was worse. I always wondered, if they know what's wrong with it then why are they bringing it to me?
It's harder for them to argue about an electric car but they still do. I had a guy tell me there are just a bunch of 12 volt batteries in the bottom of an e-car. Another told me his e-car didn't have a cooling system, why would batteries need coolant? Or a radiator?
One Volt customer was stuck on the miles per charge thing. "it's false advertising to say the range is 50 miles". It's an estimate depending on many things. "Why does it show a different number each time I charge it". The number is generated by an algorithm based on the way you've been driving. He thought it meant it was charged to a different level each time and I tried to explain it as patiently as I could but he was very agitated. Finally a salesman took him off my hands.
God forbid he read the owner's manual.

At some point I realized that people who don't know about something tend to oversimplify it in their mind. This still amazes me.

It was a Volt so he had the engine as a back-up if he depleted the battery. Funny thing was, he liked the car and wasn't trying for a buy back. He just wanted to argue about how it worked. Or maybe he was just dense.

My problem is, because I rotate through all the bikes, and sweat like nobody's business, it doesn't make sense to wash just one, but washing all eight is a big chore.

I don't like patina. I like new and shiny.
Stopped at the Trek store after lunch today and was oohing and awing the new bikes with electronic shifting. They even had a Madone and Emonda in my size. But, don't need a new bike. The old one is just a year old. Now, however, I'll start to see patina on it.

Ran mine down pretty low this week. Wanted to drive it yesterday, but forgot to plug it in the night before. Nope, not gonna test it.

Since I started waxing my chains, I now feel like washing the bike is a purely cosmetic thing, so I don't bother with it too often. I think that I've washed it twice this year... maybe three times.

"I don't get why people say the Tour de France is hard. You just sit there and move your legs up and down." I don't remember exactly where I heard this said, but the guy was not being sarcastic at all.

I don't even wash mine. I just give it a quick wipe about once every 2 or 3 months with some detail spray.

Yeah, mine is a little more dirty than that when I do get around to cleaning it. We're probably talking about once every 2-3k miles and the accumulated crud definitely needs a little more soaking to come off. Even so, it's just a bucket of sudsy water, a sponge and 10-15 minutes. Coming from the matte finish of my old Domane, it's so, so, so much easier to clean.

One difference between us in addition to you riding more than I do is that I rarely ride when it's wet. Most of our summer and fall is dry and when it does rain it dries up very quickly. So, the bike rarely gets wet. Same is true in the spring since our spring rains typically run most if not all of the day, so rain usually means indoor riding.
