So... crossing sunrise, light turns green so I go. Car from other side making left. Don't know how she missed me. I was already 2/3 the way across and wearing a bright red jersey.

I participate in Cycle for Survival, which raised funds for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. This year was virtual so I decided to do a longer ride.
Here's what I did today:
75 miles, 15.8mph average, 2400 calories and 1600' of climbing over 6 hours with a few breaks to refill my water bottles and some nourishment.
I raised $5,126, and our team raised $51,809 in total.
In total, Cycle for Survival raised $23,603,435 this years and over $285,000,000 since 2007.

Hello,
Is there anyone in Nassau? I hope everyone is doing well. I ride my 20 years old MTB on weekends. I used to go to Cunningham park when I lived in Queens. Now it is challenging to ride a 30lb MTB there and come back.

I'm in Massapequa. If yow want trails, there's Bethpage and Stillwell in Nassau. If you ride paths there's the path to joens beach and Captree that starts at Cedar Creek. And a path from Massapequa to Plainview.

Live in Oceanside. Not certain where you live but for me Cunningham is as close as Bethpage. For better trails you can hit Stillwell which is fun, can ride from Bethpage through trailview to Stillwell.

Wife and I signed us and the kids up for The Longest Day charity ride for alzheimers and picked the cedar creek to Captree for the ride. Today seemed like the perfect weather so we gave it a go. Total trip took just under 4 hours with the youngest only riding about 8 miles which is still good. Look out for the ticks this year. We stopped at the bench just before field 5, despite it being cut grass and a concrete bench we picked 5 ticks off my daughter and 2 off my son. Actually just crushed a tick 2 minutes ago that must have been stuck in my clothing this whole time. Either way, ride was fun, pulling the trailer for the youngest for the rest of the miles he didn't ride was some real work. Used the gravel/adventure bike, knew the 2.1 mtb tires I keep on it would slow me some but the 42/28 with 11-36 would mean I could pull the trailer in any wind. Ended up using the 42-24 or 28 most of the way, didn't go lower than 28 and only on the return used the 21 a few times when the wind was right or coming off the bridges. We averaged about 13mph but had multiple bathroom and snack stops, as well as picture stops for the donation page.

Did Massapequa to Captree today... 62 miles. 22mph going east and 15mph going west.
Got home, totally wasted, dizzy and 2 hours later i'm still not 100%.

I also need to cut back to no more than 5 rides a week... i've been riding too often and not letting my body rest.
I'm not 35 anymore... haven't been in 30 years.

So they are putting a "traffic light" at the Old Bethpage Road MUP crossing. it will replace the blinking yellow light. I was told it will be green and then change to yellow and finally blinking red when the button is pressed. They mentioned something about Haypath but didn't have clear information.

I took the Long Island Rail Road into the city for a remote start. 21.76 miles by the end of the day.

Eh, it's going. I can grip the brake hoods well enough with a minimal discomfort. Using the right hand brake hurts and using the right STI shifter does also. The MicroShift brifter on the Bilenky tandem has a lighter action, so that's the bike for now. I can use the bar-end shifters on my Atlantis and my Soma (which has become my go-to) well enough. Back to work in a week. I will opt out of doing CPR for a while.
I saw my surgeon this morning and he says that unless I tell him I'm 100%, he will remove my titanium bits in around 6 months. Apparently it's a lot easier to take out than to put in.

HaHa Steve.......this is actually the first time I've gotten hurt on my own......OK, the SECOND time if you count falling in December and being sore for a week or so. I don't count being taken out by Mrs. Magoo in the Oldsmobile in 1998, that was like being hit by lightning.

Yesterday I went to ride from the Chisholm State Park but the belt way was in fine form so I got off a couple exits earlier and hit the beginning of the beltway bike path, rode all the way to the end of the boardwalk in the Rockaways, found it was only 16.2 miles so on the return trip I diverted and rode the extra 1.5 miles along the beltway path to its end which adds a punchy little climb. Got me to 37 miles total. But I forgot to close the seat bag after pulling the garmin out and littered its contents.
Don't know if I'll get out tomorrow but Sat morning I head to TTown for the Masters and Rookies race along with my daughter. I expect to get crushed but should be fun, mostly its to get her there for Jr. Nationals track prep which will be at TTown this year.

HOT... headed out at 6:00am and did 74 miles @ 16.1mph. Temps were in the low 60s when i left and high 80s when I got home.

I've got V-brakes on both tandems, using Travel Agent pulleys to make them work with road brake levers. They double the cable pull at the cost of effectively halving your mechanical advantage. After a winter spoiled by the huge stopping power of the hydraulic disk brakes on my MTB, I was appalled to remember how hard I have to squeeze the brakes on the tandem. And I do not have the grip strength back yet in my right hand. Hmmmm.
If I set the Travel Agents as simple pulleys and do away with the augmented cable pull, and set the pads really close, which I can get away with as the rims are very true, I should double my stopping power......and it worked! Braking power to rival hydraulics! All I have to do is not break a spoke with the close-set pads.
So of course I broke a spoke.

Today was the day i've been putting off.... cleaning the Cannondale which is my winter bike.
4 hours later its as good as new.
Removed the wheels, fenders and chain. Put the chain int he parts washer and then the ultrasonic cleaner. Removed the cassette and it went in after the chain came out.Wiped the frame down and there was a tremendous amount of dirt and grit around bottom bracket. Used a hose and compressed air to get everything clean.
Surprisingly the chain and cassette came out as good as new.
So when done, i hung it up. Not sure how i'll feel about taking it out after the next rain and getting it filthy again.
