Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The scuttlebutt says that all this rain stems from that little disturbance out in the gulf. And that said disturbance could develop into a hurricane. Oddly, one site said <20% chance and another one said ~70% chance. In both cases, it would presumably move north in order to pick up steam. In the meantime, the rain continues, along with mild temperatures, always a treat this time of year.

I picked up a pair of Vittoria Corsa G+'s in 25mm for cheap from Excel, just when I was finishing up the Circuit. I like the ride better than GP5Ks at the same pressures. But after a mystery flat, followed by a slow leak in the tube that replaced it, I was leery of them. Seems likely the second was just a bad patch job, but I'm still a little gun shy. I was gonna get them for Mrs. Peel, but apparently Excel decided that $25 each was just not enough for smooth riding, great handling gumwall tires.

I rode my benchmark ride, the 40km+ 'time trial' on the Canyon tonight. Beat the Italians by a minute and 17 seconds (the Bianchi and Battaglin tied, right to the second), which is good because if it were slower I'd have a hell of a time justifying having bought it!

I have not eliminated the possibility that I'm getting stronger and that's why my times are coming down. I need to go back and ride either the Circuit or Mrs. Peel and see how I do.

Now the NBA I can watch on TV. It's fast paced action, incredible athletes, and the games aren't too long. I love pro football but it's tough to watch a 4 hour game with tons of commercials.
I also love pro boxing, sometimes. I no longer have HBO so I never get to see it anymore.
I can watch NBA games on TV, but I'll rarely make a point of catching a given game. A particularly good playoff match-up? Sure, but otherwise eh - there's always more.

NFL? Oh, I'll plan my day around a game, pretty regularly.

All that said, as well as the NBA and NFL translate to TV viewing, they are mind-blowing in person. TV just doesn't quite do justice to the size and athleticism of these guys; it's just absurd.

The little lady brought home tacos and Mexican Cokes. Drank approx 177.5 ml with my tacos, the remaining 177.5 ml has a shot of Evan Williams in it. Yum!

I went to two Blazers games in Portland, and a handful of Bullets games as a yute. I'll go to live NBA anyday there's cheep tix, but I just can't watch it on TV. Maybe the last 5 minutes of a game.

NBA playoffs are happening now. Since the Lakers got blown out I've enjoyed the Clippers/Jazz. Great matchup so far. Nets beat Bucks tonight as Durant hit 49.
I also like seeing the young Atlanta Hawks put up such a fight against #1 Sixers.

And you're right about seeing them live. I sat near the basket at a Lakers/Spurs game. It was amazing seeing them battling under there and then we stood up when they walked by on their way to the locker room.
