Then the FW was either poorly chosen by manufacturer, or it was replaced by a PO.

That visual gear calculator linked above is awesome. Check out the difference between yours (top) and mine (bottom - grannies left off for clarity):

Note that your gear options are nearly right on top of eachother - lots of duplicates. Whereas my setup has nearly identical steps for each gear option.

You might be able to tell that I'm a half-step gear nerd...

That's a nice little triple FD. If you decide to use a regular road FD for a compact double, there are half-step nerds who would be interested...

That gear calculator is cool (had to cheat to get a 6-speed display).

This was about the best I could do setting up my wife’s gearing for her new-to-her Cino bike….

Wondering what a wise choice for a freewheel might be? Since it's an indexed rear, logically I'd be best served by another 6.

I guess I should play with those calculators...

Yes, do. But like I mentioned before, you already have a great FW. You could lock out the 50 and simply have a nice compact double. Free.

I can't change it to a double!
I've never owned a triple equiped road bike before. I want to try it a bit. I will try to find a replacement for the 44 as a middle (and move the 44 to the large position..)
