Velo-Retro EroicaCA Cypress Mt. Training?

Velo-Retro EroicaCA Cypress Mt. Training?
I plan to do the Velo-Retro ride this Sunday and want to warm up with a few miles of EroicaCA training. I tried this a few years ago with Mt. Lukens and had fun but that road was more challenging than anything EroicaCA offers. I think I found a better road: Los Flores Motorway. https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/702...lores-motorway
I intend to park at the Aquatic center, ride over to the Los Flores Motorway (7 miles?), do the 2.5 mile with 1,000 feet elevation dirt road (a little longer than Cypress) and get back to the Aquatic center by 10:30 to do the VR ride at 11:00. Maybe start around 7:00?
Let me know if you are up for such an adventure.

Hoo boy, 10% avg gradient. Definitely a good way to train up; I like to tackle double digit gradients to toughen up for the steep sections of Kiler and Cypress. Cypress is only 2.5 miles long? Sure feels longer.
A little far for me to come along, but I'll be there in spirit, maybe find a steep pitch myself Sunday. As an aside, when I was in LA last month, I popped over to Griffith Park to ride up to the observatory. The area around the observatory was closed, I presumed for a movie shoot, so I couldn't get the obligatory panoramic photo. Turns out it was for Adele's surprise pop up concert the night before. Thanks Adele.

According to Strava (ATS), the two climbs are similar in average gradient. While the Los Flores MTWY climb is longer, we will be doing it early in the ride and not at the end of the day after two other significant climbs and 85 miles of riding as we will do in Cambria on May 1st. Bring your MTB or pie plate 1x gravel bike to check it out and then ride your Masi G.C. on the proper VR ride. There are no rules

It's not the 8.5% average gradient on Cypress that'll get ya. It's those sections that are well over 20%, especially near the top, that are the killers.

Tossing this back up: I’ll be leaving the swim club at 7:15 on my non-vintage Milwaukee Road with a 34/28 low to check out the Los Flores Motorway and get back before the Velo-Retro Ride. Probably get back in plenty of time to stop for coffee. Maybe y’all gonna ride Cyclavia tomorrow?

I used the Milwaukee with a 34/25 low gear (I thought I had the 28 on there but nope.) and it was hard. I walked the last 100 feet or so and found myself at the end saying shoulda coulda. Not too slippery with 32mm GK slicks at 75 psi. The hardest part is the relentless Sunshine Drive approaching the dirt climb.
