Day Off

I took some time off yesterday. Since we were out of almost everything, I hooked the trailer up to the bike and off I went to the grocery store. Well, I thought I might stock up and bought a lot of food. Only trouble, I had over 60lbs of stuff in the trailer. It wore me out pulling so much. Then I hit a headwind! Is there a "right" weight to be hauling in a trailer rather then making it feel like I pulling lead weights behind me?

When I tow my trailer or ride my cargo bike on grocery runs I go slow in lower gears with more spinning vs thumping on the pedals.

E bike?

HTFU?

Pump up your rear and the trailer tires hard for sure

You were pulling a trailer and "60lbs" behind you. sounds about right to me. Lower your expectations is probably the best solution. or a ebike.

It's a downward spiral.... You haul 60 lbs so you have to eat more, then you need more groceries next time so you have to haul 80 lbs......

This is the answer. I just added another attachment to my ebike so I could pull a trailer. I bought the trailer for another bike, but quickly realized it is hard to pull when heavy. I put an LP cylinder (full) in it last fall, and the ebike handled it without a problem. I didn’t even notice the weight.

Back when, I use to belong to Costco and would load up, some times a little too much. One time I had almost 80 lbs. on the bike and I crawled through town. (I even had stuff strapped to the top.) Has anyone done anything like that?

reminds me of an Abbott & Costello bit, the more dough you have, the more you knead it. I think it's in this clip

60 pounds is not a lot. I have pulled 300 pounds riding my recumbent. though 200 was more usual. just go slow. even made it up a steep ramp. but it feels weird you get pushed and pulled around a lot with that much weight.
