Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ouch!

I tend to forget that I'm riding a fixed gear probably every other ride on it, but thankfully it's never a catastrophic mistake.

Yeah this is the first one that debiked me. I've had two others that seriously disrupted my line, one that yanked my foot out of a toeclip.

One brake lever, brake housing and my handlebar got some road rash. I got some on one hand, shoulder, elbow and knee. Looks like I got a shave and a light laceration from a rotor, that pales in comparison to the gash that I'm guessing came from the end of the front axle.

Don't have the actual elevation numbers but say my 1.2 mile office park loop has 30 feet of climbing. How many times would I need to do it to Everest?

0. Loops are not allowed for Everesting - up and down the same route.

Yep.

But I have good news. Do it OAB repeat style and you're looking at fewer than 750 iterations (just using round numbers)

Wait, I thought you said 40'.

Welp, less than 1000. Easy-peasy

I'm not a good guesser of distances/height.

I did several repeats starting 10.6 miles here, but Strava gives varying elevation readings for the same point.

Sounds like still looping from one side of the road to the other.

I see it this way - they had this vision of Strava turning into more of a social network than anything else. Facebook for athletes. And if they got tons of people to sign up, they would have tons of data to sell to 3rd parties, and the venture capital people could cash out with a huge return.

But it didn't work - people didn't want another social network site. If I wanted Facebook, I would have signed up for it. Really people just wanted to keep track of their workouts, but the venture capital people aren't interested in that because it doesn't lead to the explosive growth that they need in order to cash out.

I usually think of moderating as being a thankless job. And in some ways it is, I guess, but it is fun to see stuff like this.
