My team doesn't have a winter jersey, and while I'm pretty adept at layering, I've been eyeing some of the fleece lined jersey/jackets that are more form fitting and aero than the typical cycling jacket. I have a great Cannonale windbreaker that's suitable for training rides, but it's a loose fit and more suitable for commuting than racing - not aero at all. I'd like to find one that meets the following criteria:

1) Form fit, especially in arms.
2) Typical complement of rear pockets plus chest pocket for phone.
3) Removable sleeves and/or zipper vents.
4) Windproofing in torso (optional, I have gillets that cover this pretty well).
5) Some color on the back. I primarily ride in rural areas around twilight this time of year, and visibility is a high priority. Doesn't have to be high vis yellow (although that's our team color), but some sort of light colored stripe/logo/pattern on the back would go a long way.

Suggestions?

...but i have a rapha pro team jacket that I got for 50% off from their sale which fits the bill for what your asking with the exception of removable sleeves.

what about a castelli gabba convertible? i would definitely have bought a gabba if they came in xs.

Yea, no reason to have removable sleeves when looking into jackets. At that point, you never really want to have it sleeveless. If it is warm enough to be sleeveless than grab your thermal vest. Castelli gabba is great stuff. I have the castelli estremo

Picked up a long sleeve Gabba on eBay last spring, it is a great jacket for training and racing between freezing and about 15 degrees C.

It seems like there are other similar aero jackets out there now, by Sportful and Etxeondo, if I am not mistaken. They are all in a similar price range.

Because I didn't want to get a bunch of recommendations for commuter jackets or lessons in layering. I thought a bunch of racers might recommend some racing gear.

Removable sleeves mean commuting jackets. If you want to be able to remove long sleeves then use a SS jersey, wind proof vest, and arm warmers.

My two favorite long sleeve jerseys are made by Nalini and Giordana. Both fit thin frames like mine. Not skinsuit tight but I don't want that.

Nice looking jacket. How snug are the arms? I'd be a medium (most brands) or large (castelli and or room for extra base layer).

I like my Verge Primo jacket. I think it's a custom thing only, they don't sell stock stuff, but it works. Convertible to (thermal) vest even. Honestly I don't use the vest option much, like once in a year plus, but I use the jacket often in the cold. I order them a size larger than I think I need because I usually wear it as off-bike wear. I'd wear a medium to make it snug, but I have a large. I think it's about $160. If a team does Verge I think it's not a huge deal to add a jacket or two if you already have long sleeve stuff on order, maybe if you have short sleeve stuff (not sure of the actual policies etc).

I use this jacket with a short sleeve baselayer down to about 35 degrees F. Below that I'll use a LS base layer or even a LS base layer and a SS layer. Below about 25 deg F I normally don't ride outside, at least not for a long time. I used to ride to about 20 deg F on the road, 10 deg F off road, with a similar jacket (earlier models, not convertible to vest), 2-3 LS layers, etc.

I think they sell the Schilde jacket stock. It's meant for use before/after cold cross races. It's more, $190, no idea on the colors or actual protection from cold, fit, etc.

I am in the same boat as to sizing, but I went with the large to give me some additional room for winter layering. It gives me a little bit of room, but is not too loose.

Cycling Jacket Comparison Chart your team clothing supplier probably has a similar line of items. i'm not a big fan of a zippered rear pocket, strongly prefer the open 3 pockets but that's a preference.

the jacket is a medium, the arms are snug (and long enough for me), the body is good around the chest, a little loose around the gut.

I don't know if the post above is to me, but my jacket size is just about 41, yeah.

the gabba is a fantastic piece. i prefer the short-sleeve version (paired with nano warmers) rather than the l/s version. something about the fit of the l/s version is a bit weird.

anyway, i saw your post as i was removing my gabba from today's ride. i'll often squeeze into a castelli small (for a race jersey), but i wear the gabba medium and fits snug with a thin base layer. not sure of your sizing but if you are a castelli XS a gabba S *may* be something that you could consider. (you may have already done so and ruled it out--your post just made me notice that my gabba is actually larger than other pieces.)

Thanks for the sweet deal. The jacket is great, and just the right weight. I've worn it a couple of times now, and it suits my needs perfectly. I'd recommend the Gore jacket to anyone else.
