I think I have an aRX around somewhere that I'll use in its place. I also tore up the Brooks bar tape and the hood on the generic brake levers I had on there. So it looks like new tape and probably new levers (unless I have some laying around that will work).

I escaped almost unscathed. I went down pretty hard on my shoulder but managed to roll upon landing. I was seriously worried something broke when I landed, but after some self assessment I decided I was okay to try to ride home. The shoulder was very sore yesterday but I held off on going to the ER. It's much better today...
Follow-up... I will take some pictures in the wild when I go for a ride. The Super Course is done. The Cyclone II is a bit scuffed up, but perfectly functional. The cage was a bent; I just bent it back and it seems fine and looks okay. I replaced the brake levers with Origin8 Classique Sport Road Brake Levers which have a much better grip ergonomically than the old ones, and better leverage for improved stopping power. A quick check ride to verify their positioning, then I re-wrapped the Brooks bar tape. Now I'm ready for an extended shakedown ride.

Epiphone SG. This is after an extensive cleaning, sorting out issues with buzzing and sound cutting out, new strings, etc. They probably took it to the pawn shop after the sound started going on it, when it was the filth on the inside of the cable jack, that was causing 99% of the trouble. I am hitting the guitar store this weekend to get some hardware for it. New non rusty screws, a nut for the tone control, and a set of knobs, etc.

It had a hard life, but no more. Seriously, there was actually funk built up around the frets that had to be scooped off, lol. A previous owner had also scratched "To fine to live", and "To fine to die" into the top of the body. They should have decided on something more like "Too stupid to live". Anyway this is the second Epiphone beater to join the stable in the last week.,,,,BD

I know, completely off topic, but I am wrenching on guitars lately. $65 out the door, not a bad deal.

The other beater. 2001 Epiphone Firebird Slasher. One year only model, with hot pickups. Very nice sound! I went looking for used pickups like this for the SG, but haven't found any yet. It was in nicer overall condition, but the neck needed adjustment in a bad way. It's all okay now. This one was $70 out the door. One that sold recently on ebay went for $221, so I didn't do too badly.

And unlike true vintage levers, they have a modern ergo shape that makes for an easier, more sure grip on the brakes.

Just dropped off the rose Lotus Challenger at the LBS for shipping preparation.

Swapped the 27" rims for 700c rims on the Prelude.

Swapped the 700c rims for 27" rims on the Raleigh Alyeska. The cantis were not hitting the 700c rims correctly. Needs a tuning and clean/wax.

The Raleigh below had it's stuck seat post freed, all bearings overhauled, recabled, and nice rims swapped for a basic set of Arayas. It came with a Shimano Alivio RD, thought I had a Suntour ARX lying about, which I do, but it is long cage. Thus a Suntour Blaze has been installed. Alas, the rear rim has a flat spot shown at 12:00 in the photo, so that will be replaced with a Weinmann of similar profile and color. Need to tune and trim cables and wrap handlebar.

Haven't figured out if I am keeping any or selling all of the above, as I already have one of each. Total acquired cost was $250 for all 3.

I picked up a 1982 Trek 720 earlier this year. I recently added some fenders and mks pedals to make the bike more commuter friendly. It has become my daily rider.

Thanks! Oddly enough I picked up 2 of them this year and I now I have 3 720s (one '82, two '83). One of them is paint challenged though, .

Nah, I'm not keeping all three. I just need to free up some time to do some work on them. I know how rare they are. It's just weird how I managed to pick up a 1982 Trek 720, a 1983 Trek 720, a 1978 Trek TX 900, and a 1979 Trek 510 in one calendar year. Besides I don't feel too badly about it; it would take me a long time to catch up with your typical haul for one year,

Bores look great, considering it's been sitting for 30+ years. A couple vary .002" in any direction, top to bottom, most only .001.
..
Don't have a photo, but had to change the large chainwheel on Geraldine. A couple of teeth, all together, badly, over 1/2, worn. The chain was squeaking on the 'fatter' portion of the chainwheel. Bummer, all that drillium...

I'm working on a parts bin build of my Pinarello Montello to make sure I like the fit and geometry well enough to commit to the expense of polish, paint and decals.

I would apologize for the noisy background in this image except that it helps mask the atrocity of what I've done -- Tiagra 4600 on a Montello.

The saddle, stem+adapter+shim+handlebars aren't so pretty either, but it does get pretty close to what I think the final fit will need to be without buying anything I didn't have in the garage. Most of the real parts for this bike (Campy Athena) are sitting at the post office waiting to be picked up, but I didn't want to commit to installing a Power Torque crankset without a few test rides either.

Mrs non-fixie and I have planned a week-and-a-half of credit card touring in France, as of next week. Always a good opportunity to build a couple of new bikes.

She will be riding this Cornelo, a full Reynolds 531 semi-racing frame set with a complement of parts that suit her taste and riding style. 11kgs as pictured. A first test ride was successful. I think. "It works", she said.

Yours truly will be riding this Roy Thame touring bike. Roy was the Holdsworth pro team manager BITD and also ran the Putney shop. I built it with the nicest parts from my bin. It also weighs in at 11kgs (minus the water bottle and the lights).

New brake cables, Open Paves, Nitto Pearl, Campy Record seatpost on the CSI this morning.

Did a 25 miler around town before I wrapped the bars.

Feels great, so on goes the Fizik Microtex.

Adding a Niterider Lumina 750 and twin Solas 150 tail lights.

Probably leave the Carradice on and add another Klickfix adaptor so I can use my Paloma bag as well.

Super fun el cheapo project. The ride is sublime.

Doing everything but the wheels on what will be the new showpiece at a local bike shop - guess they like my brand of shiny. It seems nearly all original '64 or '65 and even still had what appears to be a bit of official Bianchi documentation rolled up in the BB shell as an impromptu dirt guard. Wish it was mine, but I couldn't even afford the air in the tires right now since I'm saving up for a set of Mavic derailleurs to go on a project of my own.

I don't know if this counts as "wrenching" but I finally got started fixing the numerous paint chips on my Austro Daimler. I've been putting this off for a while because I had doubts about being able to match the color. Well, I now have definitive proof that I've spent too much time looking at this bike.

I was at a Sally's Beauty Supply with my youngest daughter this weekend and as she was looking over nail polish, I glanced through the selection and one jumped out at me as definitely being the color of my bike. I didn't have the bike with me and didn't consult any pictures. I just saw the color and knew it was the one. I had previously browsed the selection at Rite Aid and the closest I got was "maybe if I buy these three one of them will be close enough." This time I was pretty certain I had a winner.

I was right.

After the first coat I was initially disappointed, thinking it didn't match after all....

Then I realized that while I could still see the spot I was touching up, I couldn't see any overbrush at all. Three coats later...

I'll have to be a bit more careful about texture when I touch up the top tube, but I'm really pleased with this.

ROTFL. I brought 'Geraldine' in to the beauty parlor, looking for a color match. I mentioned it to Jackie earlier. "What color is it." I told her it was red. When I brought the bike in she rolled her eyes, "I thought you said it was red." She then went on to inform me that anyone could see that there was orange in it...

But she matched it pretty much.

Yep, looks red to me. Mine turned out to be "Cranberri" though I'm pretty sure the A-D marketing folks called it "Bordeaux Red".

Well, since I see guitars and V-8's in here, it looks like its anything goes

So I will lead off with my new (but retro inspired) house project' -- its my biggest thing I am "wrenching on"

this is all within the last few days

Before pic before sanding and finishing wood floors

After pic of wood floor after first coat of finish is applied

Set the appliances -- still dialing in the fit of the range- its 1 1/4" too short so I will have to shim the legs somehow

Got my DH rig ready - hopefully for a couple of late season rips to the ski park- I have been jone-sing to go DH'ing all year but darn work keeps getting in the way (those pesky bills still need to be paid, no matter how much fun I want to have )

Back on C&V point --- I took my old pursuit bike down from the attic , - took the old dry rotted tubulars off and installed some , not new - but better tubulars in their place - then I fantasized about being trim enough to ride it again -- LOL

As I haven't been able to throw a leg over a bike since early June, I spent most of the summer rebuilding this little beast to keep from going nuts. As it is a one year only model, going nuts was a better option.

The 90,000 mile service should have been easy. A leaky rear axle seal and bum front axle u-joint say different.
