Depends on how cold you're talking. Admittedly I only lived where there was winter for a few years but I enjoyed building a fire and snow biking and dressing warm and no air conditioning and I really didn't mind being cold sometimes. I didn't have to work there, though, and commuted off the mountain for that.
The heat just ruins everything if you like to be outside. Even just a quick trip to the store and I get all sweaty and super uncomfortable. I'm sitting on my couch typing this and I am sweating at 7:00. The a/c is on but doesn't do enough. If I could convince Mrs. John to move I would want someplace cooler, even if that means some winter.

I do admit, though, that eastern Kentucky and Velo Vol and datlas 's areas had a certain draw for us for the beauty and the riding.
BTW, Mrs. T had a fire (gas) going yesterday .

That's one reason, probably the main reason that Mrs.T and I stayed in Central Illinois when we retired. We looked at a lot of areas of the country but they all seemed to have their downside like excessive heat or cold, hurricanes, or some other natural problem. We ended up staying here because are 90+ days are limited to a handful and sub-0 days are limited, also. Are precip numbers are also passable. Flooding and blizzards happen but are dealt with pretty quick.

Wife and I are actually heading out on a road trip tomorrow to the Greenville SC area.
Partly because it was our wedding anniversary this week, but mostly to see if we would want to move there next year. On paper it looks lovely, but we need to see it for ourselves before we fully commit.
The fact that it's close to peak fall colors and near Great Smoky Mountain NP gives me a pretty good feeling that we'll like it there
And FYI, we're acutely aware that this isn't the best time to be going out of state, but we both decided that as lovely as it would be to explore local shops and restaurants, we're going to do everything possible to minimize contact with people. No shopping. No sit-down restaurants. No bars. Masks on everywhere. etc.

Is your job secure? Not a great time to be an airline employee.
See rjones28's economic spreadsheet.

I’m safe just going to be stuck as a regional pilot for a very long time. Does anybody still have that number for the truck driving school?

I'm refusing to recognize it.
Anesthesiologists. Or at least some of them.
Reminds me--I had a windy ride yesterday. Thanks. #HighPressureFromTheNorth
Drive down the interstate and write down ones from the backs of trucks.

Not the ones I know, but it's a biased sample.
On another subject, I knew people with your last name when I was growing up: Franz and Charlotte. They had a nice place on Lake Wentworth in VT. They had two kids, a boy and a girl. He went by Fränzli and I forget her name.

I bet datlas could find some Arners if he poked around his area a bit. They spread out from SE PA.
Hey @Velo Vol what are some Knoxville must-see attractions?
That's kind of vague. Depending on the circumstances, definitely go to the nearby mountains.

The plan ATM is driving straight through to Greenville tomorrow, then splitting the return trip over Saturday/Sunday or Sunday/Monday. Knoxville has been floated as a possible overnight stop, but we're not totally sure yet.
I am hoping that we'll be able to ride bikes up nearby Mt. Mitchell.

Yes, accompanied with first frost warning of the season for tonight in SE WI. Will decide tonight which tender plants to bring indoors, in a questionable attempt to keep alive through winter.
First ride with full leg bibs was two days ago.
