I get it. But give the OP extra points for persistence. I am a stubborn SOB but this is at another level

Everything is very usable.
Good for you.

Were you able to find a threaded 17t cog for the first position, or just run a splined UG cog with a HG lockring?

It's a 3/32" threaded track cog. You can get them in all tooth counts. The outer diameter is slightly larger than the 18 next to it so many in the know have told me it looks weird.
I was looking for usability and 17, 18, 19, 21, 24, 28, 32 works for me. I have no desire to suffer through vain attempts to push an 11, 12, or 13. I'm saving a 14 final and 16 HG that came with the cassette I bought to get the other cogs for another build. A 7 cog limit called for ingenuity. I didn't want to buy more expensive shifters.

If you find that the shifting is not as good with the threaded UG track cog, it is “possible” to run a normal 17t HG cog on a UG/HG freehub body that is theaded to the edge.

The caveat is that you need to add shim washer(s) to ensure that the HG lockring does not bottom out.

Also, if you really like your setup, or any 1st position cog over 14t, you should consider finding a backup UG/HG freehub body. The UG/HG bodies are less desirable for modern cassettes because they don’t accept an 11t. Just food for thought.
