Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It'd be good for a fuss-free century - flat, not a lot of crossings, not a lot of people, a few stops available for snacks and water/sports drink, lots of sections have tree cover from the sun.

I have big goals lol. Im trying to figure out how I would do it. Metric century I know I could finish. But 100 Miles might be difficult for me. I would have to plan for it to take up most of the day.

A guy I know rode from Philly to Pitt. I don’t know if admirable or foolish. Looks like he did it all at once, though he could have been a Velo Vol and done it as two rides. Can anyone tell??

And, at 32, you are in your prime for long distance. Or at the edge anyway

Century is almost always doable. Main issues are pacing and eating. Must do both from the start.

Calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms all day, beginning at 9. The skies are crystal clear. I will be going out shortly, on an apple and banana run.
I have yet to decide which bike. Little, or road. 24 km r/t.

I def. need to plan better, have something more hydrating than water, and a better food source.

I bring a protein bar if I am going longer than 30 miles, and as of now just been using water.

I don’t know how to describe it, but when I start to get tired, it not from my heart rate being too high or my muscles feel fatigued or hurting. I just over all feel zapped, and hungry. I’ve yet to feel like I have to stop I just run out of time.

Ive noticed to that it seems really hard for me to keep my heart rate up even when I am working hard. If I am cranking on a straight away my leg muscles usually tire out before I am out of breath. Not sure if this makes any sense.

Water is all you really need for a short (3 hours or less) ride. Go any longer than 3 or 3.5 hours and you need a different strategy. Totally different IMO.

I dunno if I got it in me. Relaxing with the Sunday news shows right now. Then it's gonna be hot for a while.

But who knows? Right around sundown I might just think the time is right for 51 miles.

For a century, salt is essential. Stop for some potato chips. I have bonked and loaded up on carbs and sugar with no improvement. Eat a bag of chips and I'm good to go. I put Himalayan salt and a squeeze of lime juice in one of my bottles. Drink that one first. I have bonked on centuries more times than I care to count. Listen to the voice of experience. At mile 80, start drinking water like there is no tomorrow.
Also bananas and/or gels. Gels can keep me going, but after the first one I need something in my stomach. Bananas fill that need. Eat a banana every half hour throughout if you can. The earlier you start eating the better.

1. Obviously Strava does not like you

2. Maybe, but I do not recommend it

3. We like Fuji apples in our house

I don't even like going 25 miles without food.

Doesn't take much. A mini kind bar or two fig newtons will do. But I gotta have something to gnaw on for a minute.

Golden delicious, the only choice I have. But the ride got nixed. I waited too long and now it's hot and there is rain moving in. Tomorrow
