Thanks for the awesome info. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts they switched bottom brackets in 77, when they moved from Reynolds to Vitus tubing on the triangle.

Delivering the goods as promised earlier!

My Pinarello Treviso parked at the freight elevator waiting to go up to the office with me.

Just got back into the commute after a 5 month med-scare. This 1992 Bridgestone RB-T is called Strider.
And this is how he looked when he took me to work today.

That's a nice looking Miyata. Do you know what year/model it is? I picked up a '79 610 and it rides great. I'm trying to get more info on the '79 as I haven't found anything prior to about '82. These bikes are fast, nimble, comfortable and can take the abuse.

Most of the last two years, I used my 69 PX-10 with a Carradice Barley. Then I used my 79 Trek 710? This last week, I used my new to me 87 Circuit. My commuting is done till school starts again and I'll probably go back to the Peugeot.

Second is a Circuit from Schwinn. All three have moved on and I'm now commuting on a '78 Motobecane Grand Jubile that is perfect for the job. Very comfortable with 28mm GP4000s and handles some fast efforts on my pm trip home.

Back to the office on Tuesdays-Thursdays begins next week. Finally get to use the commuter build I put together for the cancelled 2020 and 21 seasons.

Typical of my curated mixed builds: 1971 Raleigh International frame, 8-speed Sturmy Archer hub gears, Origin8 crak w/Riv chain guard, Panasonic dynamo hub, B&M lighting, VO rims/38c Paselas, Mafac Racers, Brooks B66, VO Tourist bars, Shimano M324 pedals for regular or SPD shoes, Planet Bike fenders, Blackburn & VO racks & Wald basket. Kryponite New York lock and Pletscher/Esge dual-leg kickstand, especially useful when it has rollup panniers filled with groceries front and back.

How many use a vintage bicycle to commute on?

Question - is the ancient wine, long ago turned to vinegar and used as a routine cleaning solvent "vintage"? My '83 Trek frame is set up fix gear, powder repaint, no decals, no original parts or any attempt to match the age. (Re-paint because this is one of those Treks that broke the seatstay cap across the deep TREK logo. Frame came to me with original paint but no decals save the riveted headbadge so I am guessing its a 400-something. Weight, ride and stiffness suggest a butted triangle and hi-ten fork and stays.

My commuter fix gears will always be frames of the early '80s Japanese "mold". Horizontal dropouts , eyes and clearances for fenders, if possible, no shift bosses save the clamp stop under the DT. (Nothing to snag my tights on climbing walls out of the saddle.) Preferably all English/metric; the standard the Japanese cemented for those "Golden years" when the "standards" were simplfying. Now, this is academic as I have retired, but that commuter is a permanent member of the flock; just an animal that sheds its skin (frame) periodically. The Trek is frame #5 and is one of the better "coats", having served me well for 20,000 miles and still a very good ride/fit/fun.

All my bikes are vintage.

I commute on a '72 Cilo Pacer built with a mix of original parts and period-correct upgrades.

Unless it's raining, in which case I bring my fendered '72 Gitane Gran Tourisme.

OK gaucho777 What is up with the inner tubes around the chair legs? I get the tennis ball gliders but the inner tubes?

The inner tubes are a sort of tension release, a "fidget band" if you will. The kids use them as flexible footrests, too. Don't get me started about seating arrangements...

I wonder how John Taylor Gato would work his seating arrangement.

Amusingly, I just got a "like" on this post. Thanks. But for full disclosure, an update is warranted. One of the fork ends on the World Tourist frame broke off, and the other is cracked. So, it's got another Schwinn frame on it now.
