Mystery "531 Raleigh" with long chain stays?
Going to take a look at this bike. It looks to have had some water bottle mounts added and a repaint. It has a Raleigh head badge and a 531 sticker. I doubt many of the components are original. It appears to have some long chainstays. Any ideas as to what it started out as?

If that's a fully sloping fork crown it could be a Competition or a Super Tourist, or maybe an International or a Pro but I'd expect those two to have shorter wheelbases. Seat cluster does not look Pro.

yes, both sets of w/b are additions
as are downtube stops for handlebar controls
not visible in image are likely added bottom bracket cable guides, replacing the Jubile original
note that person who performed the reworking left the no-slide pibb in place
the full-sloping crown is likely a Harrington rather than a Davis or Cinelli
here is an image of the Davis model full sloping crown on a Professional model followed by one showing the Harrington model crown on a Super Tourer:
if you could see it straight on from the front or back you would see how strikingly thin it is vertically midway between the socket for the steerer and the plugs for the blades
lug pattern is BOCAMA Professional, as employed on the Super Tourer model of 1974; U.S. market catalogue page -
subject bicycle exhibits the Huret ends of the Super Tourer and its half-chrome taper tubes
if you were to check shell width you might find it to be 66.5 rather than 68

I would suspect that it's a touring bike, because of the low slung second waterbottle mount under the downtube + the long wheelbase.....

Looks like it could be a Kodiak. The 1984 catalog says it comes with 555 tubing, but aside from that and the rear brake cable routing, I think it matches

Looks like a customized 1970s Competition or Super Tourist frameset to me - pretty much stock except for the addition of the braze-on bottle cage mounts. Notably it doesn't have a mount on the seat tube but it still has the underslung mount, which is clearly a sign of customization. It has the Campagnolo dropouts which rule out the later designated Kodiak tourist frameset mentioned above (which also came with "RALEIGH" stamped seat stay caps, rack mounts and over-the-top tube cable guides).

Pass along the serial number once you are able to.
I hadn't considered this being modified, but taking a closer look, that would make sense.

ends set of subject frame Freres Huret Ref. 230/231
enlarge image of cycle to better view adjusters
note chrome finish and black plastic nut of adjusters, the Campag 1010 employs neither
note "blister" aft of axle slot and forward of hole for adjuster
the Campag 1010 lacks this feature
closeup of dropout on 1975 Super Tourer -

Competition -
some enthusiasts assert Super Tourer to be a Competition frame with different paint and transfers
they miss one difference in the metal
at least from the late 1960's through the mid-1970's the Competition model frame is constructed with rapier pattern (undimpled) chainstays
the Super Tourer frame has dimpled chainstays as seen in this image of a 1975 model -
note also the "blister" at the rear of the machine's Freres Huret dropout
here can be seen the dimple on the inner face of a Super Tourer chainstay -
---
if one enlarges the image of the subject cycle to the maximum allowed it can be seen that there is a dimple on the lateral face of the drive side chainstay behind the chainwheels
