28.6 Clamp On Downtube Shifter Bosses

I have some adjustable cable stop ends I would like to use on a frame with no bosses. I don't need vintage and not finding a lot. Some old stuff is crazy expensive. Anyone recently found/used anything that looks decent?

the message header and content sound separate

perhaps you could clarify your meaning or post images...

since you are in an urban area would think you could find any small pieces you require at low cost via a co-op by sifting through their parts bins

So you want to put modern downtube cable stops on a frame without brazed-on bosses? If so, a fair number of clamp on downtube shifters will work (without the shifters, of course). I’ve also retapped an old Huret band clamp to accept M5 bolts and those cable stops. You can also use a fairly common SunTour, Shimano, or Campy cable stop for bar-end shifters. It won’t have a barrel adjuster to take up cable slack, but if you can do that at the shifter and/or derailleur end, it would work.

Yes. I can do cable adjusters up top or on the downtube but since I have spare ones that mount on downtube bosses, that was the preferred choice. I think as noted above it may be time to root around for parts at the recycle places. I thought there were more out there of recent make, like the downtube cable guides that clamp on, but not so.

Yep, that is exactly where I am heading. Did you have to grind on the posts or tap them?

I first cut the lever stop and removed, then I found it's not a pressed washer. I had to grind that area round to match the boss with my dremel. It was more effort than I thought it would be. Not a ton of effort, about 30 minutes. I did this all hand held, probably could have been a little easier if I used a vise to hole the band.
