Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I put up a notice on my book face page, that I would remove people for being overly political. It was great.. I'm down to a couple of clubs and my daughter and grandkids and a couple guys from work. Even people in my riding circle didnt survive the pandemic politics. No stress on my page.

Maybe it's just us getting older. It seems to me like the personalities involved, and their tactics, have driven the "us vs. them" agenda harder than ever before. Maybe I'm just more aware than I've been in the past. We probably shouldn't dig into this too much deeper on this forum, however.

Having thumbed back the hammer on the Centurion Ironman up in Sonoma County, I have now entered the phase where I agonize and obsess over whether it's the right size, and the right price and whether I really should...

It's not easy being me. Consider yourselves fortunate that you aren't.

big john - you may now laugh at me.

I don't have any issues with the people I ride with, I know their views for the most part and I don't want to argue on a ride anyway.

I used to enjoy a good argument on-line, but I don't know if that's possible anymore.

You call in the night before and they tell you if you have to show up or not. After a week of that you are done until the next time. Also, I've had to go in before but didn't get on a panel, so done after one day. Another time I got taken to jury selection but there was a plea deal, so done again.
In my 3 most recent jury duty episodes, I'm batting 0-for-3 in getting to actually participate in the jury process. First time, I was not called to a panel. Second time, I was selected as an alternate in a criminal case, but the defendant plead out during lunch on the first day. The most interesting part of the day was walking into a bathroom occupied by Phil Spector and his 2 body guards. I was directed to which urinal I was to use, and elected not to challenge the very large gentleman's directions. Last time, I was selected to a panel for a civil case against a University, but removed by the defendant's lawyer. It's been a few years since I've received a summons. My wife hasn't received one in at least 5 years, and she's one of those weirdos that really likes jury duty.

One of those things just came up on Facebook: "Without using numbers, how old are you?"

And I thought, "Sixty three". There. No numbers. Just words.
