For some odd reason I can't get my head wrapped around riding in weather below 50F this fall. Still I put in 12 miles this afternoon.

Yeah, well, we did another 20 on the tandem in advance of Tropical Storm Sandy. Tomorrow may be a different story. And I discovered a stress crack running along the center of the rear rim.

No ride today, thanks to Sandy. Winds were very strong and blowing things around my yard so I figured it would be worst at the MUP. Let's see what she will bring tomorrow morning.

.. .. .. about 11 miles in two legs. Last one up the hill. 19 miles on Friday to work along the bike trail. Still have great weather here after a brief 4-day wet front that came and went. High of 77 predicted for tomorrow.

Seriously thinking about attacking Indian Hill Road, it's the big hill looming in front of me since I started. 1,000 feet of vertical. I know, yawn, but for old lardboy it's a massive undertaking. Any of you remember your first big victory ??

65 miles and feeling the affects of the outer bands of Sandy. Rode out into a steady headwind and greatly enjoyed the tailwind on the return trip.

Did 25 miles. When I started it was 36 F and by the time I finished it was a balmy 42F. The winds were NNW at about 10 - 15 mph and the last 8 miles were straight into it. Nice way to end a ride :-) I did not see anyone else out biking for some reason.

14 mile loop on Discovery Trail. 55 degrees, 98% humidity and light mist. Sweated like a pig. A dozen crossings & intersections, and a few dog walkers, walkers, runners, cyclists. The trail gets lots of beach sand so the bike is a mess, takes a hose and air blast to clean. Raining now.

Did 96 miles through the East Bay hills, as a training ride for my first every century coming up in a few weeks. I am saving the actual century mark until then, so stopped a few miles short. All systems checked out well though, and looking forward to the actual century!

18 miles with stoker/wife on the Screamer yesterday.
11 miles on my long wheelbase 'bent today. Kind of windy but can't complain: No hurricane predicted for Indiana (altho we may get some Sandy-related weather this week).

21 miles this afternoon on the local bike paths. 55f and only 9mph SE winds.

I wish there were more daylight in the evenings after work. I am not liking having to depend on decent weather on weekends to get some miles in.

Just under 60 miles yesterday with one good climb
https://app.strava.com/activities/26248584
I did a different ride last week which incorporated the same climb, but a bit warmer yesterday, maybe 75deg. Rode the Volagi configured as a triple for the first time; worked just great albeit the current gearing is only a bit lower than with the compact crank.

According to the Weather Channel and the local weather, winds are suppose to stay above 20 mph all day today. After two days of waiting for the winds to die down, it looks like I'm headed for a trainer ride this afternoon.

I live more or less between Dallas and Waco. If you're from around that area then you know that area is pretty flat. We are fortunate to have a little section of rolling hills that runs about 12 miles of an 19 mile loop. The weather Saturday and Sunday was gorgeous so I got the bikes out for a run both days. Here is a few picts shot with my phone. The temp was a little better Sunday, about 62° but a good bit of the ride was into a 10-12 mph wind.

This thing probably doesn't look like much to you hill country guys but it just goes on and on and there is a little kicker right at the top. If any of you have been on the Italy, Tx bike ride and did the longer loop you did this hill.

My 1980 Austro Daimler Olympian.

Another shot of the AD.

Pretty much the same route except on a 1979 Trek 710 except ran the hills then turned around and ran them backwards. BTW, no Texas ride should be without at least one cow picture.

Any of you hoodlums do this?

A little further down the road.

Kent

I spent an hour on the bike, but it was on a trainer in my livingroom. Outside the wind is howling and the rain is falling. An open window a few from my face let me feel the wind in my hair. The scenery changed entertainingly because thanks to a hi-def TV right in front of the bike I could watch Star Trek Next Generation via Netflix.

Fifteen miles on the trainer last night and another fifteen on the trainer this morning. Hoping that these winds from Sandy will be over with by tomorrow so I can get back on the road. To all of you in Sandy's path, stay safe and be careful.

The cool crisp dry autumn weather continues - it can be nippy, but with dry roads, there's lots of riding to be done. In previous years I had already stopped weekday riding by this time of the year owing to the early sunset, but this year I've got a super-bright light and it's greatly extending my fall riding. So I did 26 miles at a good 18.1 MPH average tonight - chiefly on the midtown greenway and trails to the west of the city. It was 38 °F when I began and a couple of degrees colder by the time I finished. Believe it or not, for the moment I consider that to be nearly perfect - a little bit warmer would still be too cool to ride without a beanie under my helmet, but warm enough so I'd be sweating under it.

I used to say I would ride in the cold, the dark, or the rain, but only one of the three at a time. Now I'm just fine with cold and dark. As for rain, I'll only do that in the summer on my rain bike, provided of course that it's not a bad thunderstorm. Definitely I'll ride in the snow, too. As my gear and attitude allows me to ride under a wider range os circumstances, I avoid the the dreaded gym. I've only resorted to the gym once so far this season!

Been there done that

12 miles today at lunch break at work. It's getting easier and the miles are starting to pile up.

First gentle headwind ever, argh. Now I think I know what you all might mean about misery.
