Today I rode to work (again). Had to skip a few days for weather reasons and other commitments. Today was about navigating the thin patches of snow dust on the road shoulders. Also navigating one of Woburn's roving bands of wild turkeys. Today too I rode the horse that throwed me a few weeks ago. Today (so far) it was docile and did what I asked of it.

A very good 58 mile ride with Steve and Frankie. A perfect day for a bike ride.

We've had some heavy weather the past few days. There were large snow flakes this morning but by 11AM it had warmed up into the low 40s and the snow melted. With more storms on the way I figured I wouldn't be able to ride again until next week, but I managed to get in 8 muddy miles (12.7k) in the sunshine. Brutal headwind coming from the west. It took me 1/2 hour to slosh all the mud off the bike.
My good intentions of turning the aluminum Allez into a semi-cyclocross failed in that the Continental 35C cyclo-speed tires (nice tires) are too wide, won't fit on the bike, and the vendor won't take a return. Ooops. But the Mavic 23C's do have some tread so I rode the Allez today.
2017: 82m (132k)♂Total: 15,059m (24,236k) · Allez 8m (13k)/3,823 (6,153k)

Must have had a bit of dementia this morning before the ride. I must have forgotten what the winds were like yesterday and went out and did 48 miles in winds worse than yesterday. Last 20 miles was done in the small chain ring so I could keep enough speed to keep me from falling over.

Weather Underground (web site) predicted snow this morning, rain this afternoon. I ordered sunshine. When I got to the bike path Ma (Nature) had reserved a moderate headwind just for me
Leaving my usual rest stop she also provided me with a rear flat. Took me a while to swap out the tube with cold fingers. These Conti Ultra Sport tires are hard to get a tire tool into. Managed 9.1 miles (14.6k). Anything less than 10 miles feels like I haven't completed the ride.

First 'rideable' day in 6 weeks, went out for a 12 mile ride, and I'm exhausted! No snow (just lots of rain, wind, sleet, etc.), so I've only gone XC skiing twice yet this winter. Right now my roof rack has ski holders on 1 side, and a road bike holder on the other....

26 miles today which included about ten miles of the Indy Mayor's annual Polar Bear Ride, which attracted a pretty large turnout, as the temp was in the 50's for the start, and got up in the 60's before the day was over.

An eventful 35 mile ride Saturday with some stops. First I rode to our local downtown's version of the parade and rally to support women's solidarity. Rode at the back of the parade, snapped lots of photos.
Had lunch, re-explored an abandoned stadium that once housed our longtime minor league baseball team, The Cats. Last time I photographed only the outside since gates were locked, but now the gates were opened so I was able to photograph the inside. Perhaps ironically I found the cover of a baseball several yards behind the pitcher's mound, as if Roy Hobbs had knocked the ball cover off with Wonderboy. Shot some video and photos but left it untouched. I'm not superstitious, but I know some ghosts of baseball players who are.
A t-storm blew in quickly with an ominous circular cloud front so I ducked under a bridge. The storm band was very narrow and it was over with in 15 minutes, leaving behind the most spectacular rainbow I've ever seen. The sun came out as the rain was tapering off and the end of the rainbow appeared to land on the ground only 200 yards away, the closest I've ever seen the landing end of a rainbow.
All in all a good day. I still don't really enjoy continuous rides longer than 20-30 miles, but do enjoy longish rides combined with exploring and stopping to take photos and chatter with folks I meet.

The winds were blowing pretty good or bad depending on one's perspective regarding wind................further down the West Coast of FL. and managed to get 82 miles in. Bike Sebring 12/24 Hours in 3 weeks from tomorrow so have to put wind out of the mind and keep on pedaling.

Yep! We've been having some pretty brutal winds here lately. Sitting it out today because we're looking at really high winds throughout the day. Currently (8:30am), the wind speed is at 13 mph with gusts at 19 mph. According to my wind app, at 10:00am we're looking at winds of 17 mph with 35 mph gusts. By 4:00 pm we're at 26 mph winds with 49 mph gusts. Wind gusts for tomorrow are predicted to stay above 30 mph throughout the day. Monday is my one weekday off of riding so I'm good there.

I'm back!
First real ride on the Domane since the dog attack and subsequent pelvic fracture. 28 miles on the Archer trail towards Bronson. It felt great, but those winds were BRUTAL! But at least this time they blew from west to east, so the return ride was a breeze . I'm probably about 80-90% back, this after 10 weeks off the bike.
Work is a major headache, so most likely just weekend rides until it stays light later....

22 miles today, with a stiff N/W wind. Really hurt us on the way out, but helped pretty well after about 9 miles.
First ride since last Monday, but the second ride in a month.............
Started to feel pretty good after about 12 miles or so-my standard warmup these days.
65 is looming large on the horizon........

21 miles Monday evening and averaged 14 mph on a route where I've never broken 13 mph before. It's a hilly route, nothing too steep but lots of roller coaster stuff and occasionally stiff head winds. Legs felt great. Could have pushed harder but allergies and a little chest tightness from asthma had me huffing and puffing and easing back a few times.
