A day late...Yesterday, I took a short 18-mile ride up to Inspiration Point in Tilden Park at the top of the Berkeley Hills. A lot cyclists & hikers were out enjoying a sunny day after some rains over the weekend.

Today was my first ride of the spring, and it was primarily a way to cope with the monotony of Oregon’s Stay-At-Home order.
The weather was perfect for a short loop which started along the river bike path, and cut through campus for the return home. Along the way, my mind was refreshed with sightings of geese, ducks, robins, heron, and a sweet scent on the air. Not to mention getting the blood flowing again.

non-fixie thank you. I’m super pleased with how it came out. It’s a fun bike for scootin’ around town, but I’m really hoping to put some long miles on it this year. I had light touring in mind when I built it.

Today = warmest day of year!, maybe since Oct.?
Short sleeves, shorts, ankle socks, kinda warm. 66*F and sunny.
Skipped yesterday (no over-training too early) so planned 40mi for today, minimal hills, even a few miles on side roads that would be new to me. Haven’t ridden the DeRosa for a while. Short pre-check says ‘top tube seems a tiny long’, so, Oooops - better reposition/tighten saddle on clamp.
First few miles tells me left knee, needs a gentle start and will ‘work itself out’ over time.
Here at home for start
Staying ‘hidden in the pack’ is always my objective when riding the DeRosa. anyway, 8 miles in it’s either Issaquah or Hobart - the choices.
With no Plan B, only a ‘listen to the body’ philosophy - especially in April — then the choice goes - no hills and more options for short. So more pics. Can you say Utility Box ??
Then the Art

Pleasing colors, IMHO.
More of those Utility Boxes. Are they electrical junction? Or traffic intersection connection boxes.

northbend, Matt, thanks for that excellent ride report and beautiful, scenic photos. That “Iron Horse Trail” looks like a lot of fun.
I’ve only been for a handful of rides the past couple weeks, and the popular cycling roads near me seems just as crowded with cyclists as ever. Lots if people out with their kids or taking advantage of “working” from home. I even passed a tight group of 8 cyclists (all proudly decked out in Cal Bears team kit) on yesterday’s ride.

Did some crazy steep logging road riding today. Lotsa 15-20% get-off-and-push stuff. I need not tell you I was the only one out there today. This is a road just north of Lake Crescent I peeked at on a my MTB a few summers ago. Today I only rode (and walked) 10 miles but got in 2000' of climbing. Boy am I out of shape.
Where Eagles Dare. And some other enormous raptor which I couldn't identify, too. This nice viewpoint looking north to Canada had a couple big birds contesting the territory.
I started the day on a short canoe ride down the lake to check out the piling repairs my neighbors had done on their docks. Our dock got wiped out in last winter's storms and I'm probably going to end up concrete-topping what's left of our rotten old pilings before rebuilding the top side. Anyone want come out and help me? Most of you Seattle area guys are non-essential employees, right?

Never heard of it. In my case, however, it's very possible the camera popped out of my jacket (long story) and landed on the ground at speed, so doubtful it would be working correctly even if recovered.
Just not paying attention. In my defense, the day was beautiful and I was distracted by the shiny, bright thing in the sky

Some of you folks are very fortunate to live so close to wonderful nature! Here in central California I'm not far from it, but most of the state and federal lands and even the local preserves are closed... So I'm obliged to stick to country roads for inspiration.
Today as I puttered along out south of Visalia I stopped to watch the bees in a young orchard, and was reminded of a Three Dog Night tune:

I did a nice hilly, 30-mile ride this afternoon. Starting in Berkeley, I headed north along the ridge of the east bay hills, looped back of the other side of the hills past the San Pablo Reservoir, then back up & over via Wildcat Canyon. Glorious weather and empty roads for a change.
First stop was at the closed-up "office" to water the class garden (not shown).
Shame about those power/cable lines. Otherwise, a nice view of the SF Bay.

Yours truly (still adjusting to my new face after recently shaving my beard for the first time in a few years)
Looking back inland & eastward toward Contra Costa Valley before dropping back toward Berkeley & the bay.
