Hi all
For restoring my french bike I've just choose same saddle it was originally sold with in 70th

Is it the wide photo angle or are the rails a bit far apart?

Sharing also an Ideale special order, took months to receive. What's special is titanium rails and aluminum rivets as made for Concours des Machines a couple years back. The nice people at Ideale will make these in small batches as they are not a regular item. Very expensive, a rare indulgence for me, mounted on the 1975 Alex Singer.

They, the couple, are an absolute pleasure to deal with. I also made a special order but not at all as advanced as the above ti-beauty. I just wanted to have a clean early looking 90 without the sissy ;-) pre softened Rebour markings. No problem at all. Of course it has the same treatment but nothing that advertise it.

Small question to all owners - did you apply supplied grease before use or it already applied 1st time on manufacturing?

If I own the saddle from new I do not apply grease other than a thin coat on the inside. Keep it out of the rain and tyre water spray and it will be fine. Has worked for me - my saddles seem to keep their form better than for people that soak them. If getting an old saddle, second hand, I do apply grease (Proofide or such) all over and then wipe it off on the outside.
Once a year I get drunk and have a inside of saddle grease day...
This one has been used on my tourer since the 80ies. No rain, no tyre waterspray and a thin coat on the inside maybe once a year:
But I thought it started to look a bit tattered so it got retired and I fitted this one instead:
Even a totally ruined saddle is good for something (Picasso style):
A "Rebour" 90 and me in 1989. Still have it (it is in the once a year grease party-pic above).

I always considered the Ideale 90 the French equivalent of the Brooks Professional. Any thoughts?

OP your Ideale is the same model I've spec'ed for my Singer. It's a lovely seat, I test rode one and for me it feels very like the Brooks Pro that I've put many miles on. I'm in the "rarely treat" camp and prefer a very hard surface to push against when pedaling. A light coat on the top once a year at most, and never the underside. In the rain I almost always ride fenders, and in a pinch a crumpled up plastic bag stuffed underneath works fine to protect from road spray. I have Brooks Pros, a couple of Swifts, and an Imperial all of which are doing fine with this regimen.
Also I can't help but notice your location, we all hope for a quick end to this dirty business and bloodshed there. Stay safe.

I really like the look of the Brooks Pro because of the large copper rivets. I did not know that the Ideale 90's can also come with the oversized rivets like the Brooks Pro.
The large rivets gives the saddle a very classic look.. And some bikes just look best with such saddles on it......
Can't imagine mounting any type of saddle on my 83 Davidson than my Ti railed Brooks Pro.......
