Gentlemen, I am waiting to see yours with this kind of fillet brazing.
Also be careful how the brake is fixed...

The book comment was something of a joke, which did not land well. Your response says plenty.

Bringing your attention to the social missteps you've already made is unlikely to change anything, so for now I'll just say that orange bike needs some love before being offered as an exquisite specimen.

The replacement dome nuts make the monoplanars look cheap, the rear derailleur housing end cap is splitting open, and the front brake cable looks like it's pulled taught and would perform better if the stem were lowered a bit.

This seems like more of a wagging thread than anything.

It's true that the distance between us but not only can be big at times, but we have to deal with it.

I haven't published an orange bike yet, but a saffron one, I deduce that you suffer from color blindness.
This can be treated slightly, so it's up to you...
Then it also seems that you have a problem of comprehension of text.
The title of this post is "Top Fillet Brazing Vintage" and not "mounting quality"
This bike was recovered at a sale without the owner knowing what this frame represents. It is therefore logical that after more than 45 years of life it has been poorly maintained, but I can guarantee that it will be reassembled in the rules of art.
In fine, what do you think of the construction of these frames, its finishes etc.?
Have you ever seen others of this level, if so, please post pictures, and even better if you own them

I don’t know how often I can say it: the bikes are gorgeous and unique.

But man, the attitude! This whole “my bikes are the best ever made! Anyone have anything better?” Is just so… I don’t know… American?

Fantastic example.
And you seem to forget that here we are talking about vintage bikes only....
And if you think that lightness means that you don't understand anything about bikes or mechanics...
But you are just a follower of fashion ,,

And are ou joking between this ....

And this ....?

Not my byke, but the Brand is a top of the top.

And lucky me I've been collecting them for almost 30 years, don't tell you how many I have that haven't been renovated yet for those who need it.
It's late in Europe, I'm going to bed....

You are correct regarding the vintage comment, ignoring your personal attacks. However there is nothing special about filet brazing and other than taking a ridiculous amount of time to finish to that level, it offers no benefits, it is the weakest of the commonly used methods of welding a frame together. Filet brazing is also the most forgiving method of frame building requiring the least equipment, moderate skill and easy ability to correct errors. Enough time with a file and every weld will look great, overheat the tube no one will know, need more material, braze a bit more on.

As far as going back to school I am a trained and certified welder as well as a Tool & Die maker there is nothing magical about this. If you want flowing lines get carbon. If you want a testament to a builders skill get TIG welded. One pass and no room for error, if you screw up it’s there for everyone to see. If you really want to award this frame builder it would be for being the most patient and the lowest paid per hour.

Finally accusing me as being a follower of fashion, that piece of performance art you are showing has no method of clamping the seat post and requires the brake cable to be threaded through a predrilled hole in the same post. If anyone is putting fashion over form I think we all know who it is.

I’ve gotta think a fillet brazed frame is heavier than a comparably-speced lugged frame but I don’t know enough about frame building to know for sure.

Those frames are pretty and all, but to me the filleting is over done and they look like carbon frames made of steel and brass.

They look stunning, but how do they ride?
There are too many bikes in the world that look good but ride like a donkey.
It can only be a good bike, or even best (whatever that is), if the ride quality has certain good things about it.

An administrator will be able to fix it

I start with my bespoke Mercet from 1994 in Columbus EL.
Very nice. I appreciate the extra work that goes into a fillet brazed frame, especially one that is chromed not painted.

My bike is certainly not bespoke, however Tesch was known for the quality of his fillet brazing and racing geometry in his production of the S-22. Here’s my restored 1989 Tesch S-22 how I originally built it up and how it current stands today.

I’m not sure how many S-22s Tesch built but it’s safe to say in the low 100s.
