I do the same but I don't put it in a bag. I tried a phone mount for navigation for a while when I was in a strange city and found it far, far to distracting without any advantages.

My wallet with ID, money and CC's are that bag too! I don't have one of the fancy phones of various brands that are said to be very water resistant. So I feel I need to protect it a little more since I sweat like a horse..

I have three or four of these. I like that they mount easily to a bar or a stem and the claw approach allows them to mount to tapered areas of either.

Sure. Computer, maybe not so much, even if there are good bike computer apps that shows most normal data. Speed, distance, Heart rate, etc. But I'm not aware of any app that has the full compliment of features of a high end bike computer. Far from it.
Navigation, definitely. Several good apps out there and navigation does benefit from the better screen and a powerful processor.
Combining a basic bike computer and phone for navigation is a powerful setup with all the usual bike data and navigation available at the same time without constantly switching screen and the data competing for the screen with the map and navigation.

Even if I bought a phone just to use on the bikes it would cost $175, which is less than a Garmin. The battery is claimed to last for three days, my guess is that both my phone and a Garmin are IP67 rated.
But the NRE for my phone is spread out over millions of units. And I can receive calls if I want to or need to.
It can find a local business if I am touring. It connects to all my sensors.
I pay $10 a year for software support and they have been good.
I'm not sure I want to put an expensive single purpose item on my handlebars when an Android phone I already own can do everything it does and more...
