I really didn't need a Motobecane Grand Touring but...
It was real cheap and pretty....
1983 with frame and fork of Vitus 888, duo par eco rear derailleur, stronglight 99 crank and the seatpost and stem weren't completely stuck. It's a 25" frame but was actually quite comfortable to me, which astounds me because a year ago I rode 23"max and now I prefer 24 ish. I got this with the idea maybe someone taller would like it but I'm gonna try it out a time or two for sure. Very much will be french fit.
Before I pulled the seatpost and stem loose.

Nice score! I have my daughter’s in my shop and I told her I would keep it until she is ready to start riding again. They seem like nice bikes . My 1980 Motobecane Grand Sprint has the same tubing and I ride it all the time. It doesn’t seem very heavy to me and yet plenty strong with no movement in the BB when climbing , so fine for me. Motobecane had good quality bikes from our experience . My daughter also has a Gran Jubile’ from the late seventies , it is a mixte, I am storing that one as well . So that makes three in my stable and all good bikes.

I do find the Duopar derailleur and the Stronglight 99 cranks to be very interesting! The Duopar was a novel and fairly well engineered method of keeping the chain close to the cogs for better shifting performance. The Stronglight 99 was an easy to use crank for setting up things like a half-step-plus-granny gearing scheme. It was certainly simpler than the earlier T.A. Cyclo-Touriste crank. It's a bit of a shame that the BCD didn't become more popular, meaning that the rings are somewhat rare now.
The date of manufacture, 1983, surprised me a bit... I would have expected more Japanese components by then.

Moto-related, it's official. Mrs. ascherer asked me to move the 3x9 drive train from her Lotus onto the Grand Jublie mixte. As much as I like to see it in it's original form, she'll be happier with the newer components and closer ratios. I put a set of rando bars on it, they went over well on a short ride.

Yeah, I'm swapping wheelsets so she gets her dynamo lighting too. Assuming French threading I may need to keep the BB in place an put a compact double on it. Or I could get one of Jon's triplizers for the Stronglight. Not sure if the brifter would work properly with it but a guy can dream.

Took it for a spin to pick up my car. It's just kind of cobbled together for now but it's a very comfortable bike. With narrow rims, 35s fit. I tried another stronglight crank on it just for the heck of it and the bottom bracket axle is the right length. With a rack and fenders I'd tour on this no problem.

Excellent! I have 32mm 27" gatorskins on mine and there is ~4mm clearance in the back. I love that it was $300 even and even came with the original bag.

Nice catch!. I always thought the Grand Touring was a decent multi purpose bike. A person can never have too many Motobecanes!

You don't have to make excuses! It's a Moto GT that was "Made in France", and it is in really nice condition. I would have been all over that like "white on rice", especially since it's my size. IMHO, the 1978s were works of art. This model year, though, came with some very nice changes. Super nice catch!
