On FB. I used to call on this shop. They had a big box of Super Champ #58 rims that I sampled over the years.

Original Italian shop label - from what I believe was a Taurus Cortina? bought this bike more as a sculpture (was fascinated by the rod brakes) than rider, then sold it to someone who was going to actually ride it.

Jack Kemp Village Cycle. I have no personal knowledge, but it looks like Kemp was active in bike racing, and I think the shop may still be in business, under his son's management.

Oh, no, he sold the building in '95 and moved to Idaho. This story is worth visiting facebook to read, and it has some great pictures:

The link doesn't seem to come through after I submit. I'm puzzled. Maybe you can copy-paste this into the address box, though:

Nice one! I had found that article and briefly scanned it but missed it, when I was trying to find out what this shop was. I stopped at "Valley Cycles" didn't go far enough and open the other pictures with the sweet "Jack Kemp Schwinn" signs that were above the shop. Missed the whole George Peppard worked the counter and that he was a founder of the Encino Velodrome, good stuff.

Here's one I would like to see more like:
This is on 91' Trek 700 I am fixing for a neighbor - pair of these, his and hers, both put together by "Dave". I wonder how many bikes got one of these? Has anyone seen a similar version where the bike shop worker is identified?

"Dave" Fleet Feet Racing - Hermosa Beach, CA

I usually remove bike shop stickers on my bikes. I picked up a 1972 Schwinn Super Sport and it had this water slide decal on it. It is not easy to remove and it kind of looks vintage enough to stay.

Gundelach's Bike and Mower:

I Googled Gundelach's Bike and Mower in New Rochelle, NY and found that they dropped their bicycle business, but they are still doing lawn care equipment. They have a different address from their 1972 address. They state on their website to have been in business since 1898. I have to image that they were probably doing bicycles back then since lawn care equipment was a scythe or live stock. But I could be wrong and they were selling agricultural equipment back then since New Rochelle, a suburb of New York City, probably had farms then.

You have to appreciate that they used a water slide decal. How often do you see that? Many of you on the C & V forum would also recognize the phone number system of two letters followed by five numbers. Gunderlach's still has the same phone number as their sticker from 1972. NEw Rochelle 2 - 0071.

Meaning us old farts, right? Well, sonny, let me tell you that I can remember back when our number went from two letters and FOUR numbers (BE-1151) to two letters and five (TW5-1151).

While we're into demographics, the 2 bike projects I've posted most recently about were northern transplants to the Sunbelt...The Fuji single speed from Woodbridge CT and the Shogun with early Grip Shift from S Orange NJ.

My two 70's bikes were Midwesterners, the '73 Grand Prix from Michigan and '75 Continental from Chicago. All these are pictured earlier in this thread

Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

This is on a '69 Typhoon frame I recently aquired.

As pointed out on another forum, the format of the data on the sticker seems to pre-date 1969, but there it is.
