I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I'm glad it's not worse.

Just take it easy for a few weeks. De-training doesn't set in until after 2 weeks, meaning that you can take 2 weeks off of the bike and not lose any current fitness. It'll take 2 or 3 days to get back to where you were before.

Maybe take this time to:
- Disassemble, clean, lube, etc... your bike(s).
- Watch videos. One good exercise is to watch mass start or keirin videos and rewind and watch what the winner did in the laps leading up to the finish. Now do the same for #2 and #3 riders and maybe see what kept them from winning.
- After your open wounds close up, Swimming is a good low strength, low impact activity that will keep your range of motion from stiffening up.
- Work on your flexibility (this has always been a problem for me). Proper stretching can take a long time but helps a lot.

yes flexibility shall be concentrated in tomorrow great ideas. Id love to clean my bike....the police have it due to the incident! ill give my singlespeed a lube and wipe down though yeah.

Saw on bikerumor that Cinelli is coming out with a tapered headtube frames (here: IB14: Cinelli Tapers Track Headtubes, Introduces 650B Hobootleg Geo Adventure Touring Mountain Bike).

I've never ridden a bike with a taper headtube, so I have no idea what's hype and what isn't, though the claimed benefits would seem to be a boon for track (increased stiffness, etc.). Any thoughts on whether this will be effective, and if so, whether or not other manufacturers will follow suit?

How could we live not to mention ride without the strength of tapered head tubes?
The increased stiffness helps to keep track better and channels the flow of power directly where it belongs...

But wait...there is more... Did you know that somebody forgot to tell the Brits this little secret? And because they don't know what they are missing they keep on winning with 1" steerer tubes
but yoh man they lost a few times at the commonwealth games against the Ozies, but they also didn't have tapered head tubes..

What does that tell us about marketing?


P.S. I don't think that racers are Cinelli's target group.

Does anyone here have a set of Mavic Ellipse nearby?

A buddy of mine just got a brand new set and it appears that his don't have any "grip nuts" on the inner part of the axles (front and rear). When he tightens the nuts, the axles spin.




Do your Ellipse look like this?

I can't remember what mine looked like- I finally threw them away out of frustration from this issue..

I was thinking about buying a set of Mavic Ellipses. In the second photo it looks like the axle turning problem can be prevented using an Allen key in the axle.

I did some standing starts in a fairly big gear on friday...my glutes are eye-wateringly painful (as in DOMS) is this normal? lol i assume its part of adaptation as ive not really done them before!

If you're anything like me, the first time or two will be brutal, and after that things will get much better DOMs wise. Make sure you cool down after the efforts, and do a recovery ride either later in the day or the next day coupled with some foam rolling and stretching. That typically gets me back up and running pretty quick.

Carleton, thanks for posting the pics of the Ellipses for me. So far I'm pretty disappointed with the wheels.

I managed to get them tighten down but only to come loose on a standing start.

Quinn, did you have the same issues. I'm thinking about getting rid of these while they are almost brand new.

yeh. The wheels progressively got worse. I took them to the shop and they were able to make them a little better, but it never stuck for long.
The Allen wrench will get you going, as will some patient alternating tightening- but it's a pain and I couldn't deal.

Chain tugs are a different kind of pain but are reasonably effective at keeping the wheel in place. They still do not solve the rotating axle, just the part about having to tighten it up as much.

If you dont wash those, they might start walking around in your kit bag by themselves - i've never sweated so much in a pair of gloves as much as i do in these. Spoke to the 5bling people, and you can wash them - I sadly had a mail crash, and no longer have the exact details of how, but i think its either by hand or on cold/ no softner.

Does anyone have experience with/thoughts on the All-City Thunderdome? To my untrained eye, the fork doesn't look like it would be the stiffest thing in the world.

As a bit of background, I'm a 6'6" 270lb roadie looking to start out on the track. Any other recommendations for bikes or frames? Price range is sub $2k-ish. I'd prefer to build it up myself if it makes sense.
