Scatto

on 2 lines is on the bars and seems to be the updated sticker pack for the bars.

My guess is that that stem is solid aluminum, inexpensive, aero-looking, and heavy as hell.

EDIT:

I fooled around with the image levels to show a little better:

He unclipped in his derny races on two separate nights. Didn't get clipped in as quickly the second night. Both times the right foot and both times unforced errors.

IIRC Cav rides on Speedplay pedals and he might ride the one-sided aero speedplay pedal in which case it probably didn't help out.

Crazy that he clips out there doing a seated effort but I don't think I've ever seen him unclip doing his crazy side-to-side flinging road sprint.

Can someone explain a Durney race to me. Never seen one and from watching the Cavendish video clip, it appears each person has their own personal durney to follow/draft and it appears that the racer and durney driver may be communicating.

My assumption with this is that the rider calls out however fast they feel they can hold on to the derny?

Sort of. They definitely communicate, when they can. But it's not just a matter of how fast a rider can go - it also comes down to how good a derny driver is: when they add speed to effect a pass and how they time that at 45mph with X number of laps to go. A derny driver might just say "stay with me!" and essentially make his own move.

This derny race blew me away (London 6 Day, day 5).
The last 10 laps start around 2h 14m

A friend who's done a bunch said that about all you can do is yell "allez" or "whoa" for faster and slower - it's very noisy with a bunch of dernies going around plus the wind noise. The derny drivers have minds of their own, and he claimed to have never had to say "allez".

yeah, when i motorpace I tell the driver that the only thing I'll tell them is "up" or "ease" - same with "allez" and "whoa," it's not about what word you're saying, it's about having two opposite commands with very different vowel sounds.

Watched some of the proper motorpaced racing that was on at the euros. The one with the moto riders standing and funny bikes specifically made for the event. It's definitely an interesting thing to watch and the speeds some do is quite incredible.

^^^yup.

In a Derny race, a rider races a conventional track bike. The Derny pilot is seated, and the Derny has both an engine and a pedal drive - which lets the pilot make small, steady adjustments to the speed.

In a steher race, steher pilots are standing to throw a huge draft. They are piloting big motorcycles with a roller on the rear, and the racer has a special bike with a small front wheel and a huge amount of trail. Never ridden one but I can't imagine they handle very fast!

I was taught to say "oh" to slow down. Probably varies according to dialect. Really the only thing you really can say when you're totally blown.

One thing I learned real quickly is that being out in front in a derby race is actually really hard at those speeds. Drafting in a line of riders and bikes is significantly easier than just drafting off of your own bike. I did a derny race back in 96. I was riding pretty well and decided to attack from the gun -- I'd have my own draft, so how hard could it be. The experienced riders let me lead for a little bit and when they came around they left me in ruins. I was pretty much yelling "oh!" the rest of the race. I think Kurt Betschart won that day.

So not really a find on a web, but I've got an update on those 10t track hubs. Ran into Denis Dmitriev at the velodrome and he was doing f100s on a 60x10, so I asked him about the hub and this guy he knows in Russia fabricates them (10t on one side, 11t on the other) and sells em for about $540 with a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks based on his inventory.

Figured I could ask for deetz if anyone wanted. It's wayyy out of my budget, but still something I thought you'd find interesting.

One of the guys on the BEAT Cycling Team (Dutch privateer sprint squad) is using the Vision track crank. It can be briefly seen here:

I tried to fix your link but I believe you need to be signed into Twitter to see it as it works on my iPhone but not my desktop.

I know, right?

The Dutch will have a deeep pool of sprinters to field for the Olympic team for sure...and lots of points.

Maybe it's by design to have a National team and a privateer team so that all of the riders can get good "playing time".
