So, after receiving the last pieces and tools I needed to build up the Classique, it was such a hot day we ended up not eating dinner until almost 8:30. Then The Boys and I engaged in a political discussion that ran till about 9:30. So, I didn't get started until nearly 10 PM. I figured I'd just install the fork/headset and bottom bracket. But then, once that was done it wasn't even 11:00, so I figured I'd install the cranks. I installed the driveside crank, and realized the BB wasn't nearly tight enough, so I fiddle around trying to get the pin spanner into the holes behind the crank spider and getting it adjusted, which took a good 10-15 minutes.
By now, some of you will be saying, "Why would you need to get the pin spanner behind the crank spider? The adjustable cup is on the other side."
Oops.
Okay, so off came the crank I'd just installed on the wrong side. Then I put it on the right side, adjusted the cup and locked it down. Then I put on the NDS crank I'd just received. Went right on, and the self-extracting insert screwed right into the threads, like butter.
Now it's not even midnight, so I figure I'll install the derailleurs and brakes. That went smoothly, and it was barely 12:15, so I figured I might as well install the derailleur cables. Then it wasn't even 12:30 yet, so I figured I might as well install the bars. And as long as I've got that done I should run the brake cables. That took a while, trying to get the cable taut enough! Then, it wasn't even 1 AM yet. Might as well install the chain and adjust the derailleurs.
Now it's 1:15, but I'm so close to done I can taste it. Might as well wrap the bars. On slight hiccup - the right lever wasn't properly tightened down. No way to tighten it with the cable in place. SO I had to loosen the cable I'd spent so much time getting right, pop the cable end out of the socket in the lever, tighten the clamp nut, reposition the cable end, and pull the cable taut and clamped down again. NOW I can wrap the bars.
Now it's 1:40, but I'm still not sleepy, so I spend a good 15 minutes installing the band to clamp on the bottle cage. Most of this time is spent on a bottle cage I soon realize is just not going to work. FINALLY at 2:00 AM, the whole thing is put together. But I'm still not tired, so I figured I should oil the chain, the brakes and derailleur pivots.
2:10 AM, finally finished!
I think I got to bed at 2:30. I turned off my 7:30 alarm, figuring to sleep in since I'm WFH today and have no meetings. Woke up at 7:15 anyway, feeling like I'd been run over by a bus.

Folks in our neighborhood got a warning from the local constabulary about some people breaking into cars parked in driveways looking for garage door opener remotes, who then come back and steal what's in the garage. In fact they broke into the Dodge (though, to be fair, I probably left it unlocked), but of course since I don't use the garage for cars, I don't carry one. Our garage door opener is engaged with the door and unplugged, which serves as an effective lock, but we also have two bolts screwed to the door that go into holes in the track.
Of course, we have all the joys of regular hailstorms and extreme heat, both of which provide plenty of incentive to keep them in their little homes when not in use.

The Older Boy worked at Safeway as a Courtesy Clerk, and yeah, rounding up carts was one of the jobs he hated.

Yep!
Of course, at 2:30 there's no way to take it for a shakedown cruise. But on the plus side, the later I stay up, the night after a hot day like yesterday (100 degrees), the longer I can leave all the doors open to let cool air in and cool the house down, ahead of another hot day today (though NWS says it won't get as hot)

I make a big deal and make sure they see and hear what I have to say about it. I don't actually address the poor infirm soul that is too weak to put it where it belongs, but I make sure they know I know they're in such poor condition, that it's my pleasure to help them out...

I keep mine all in the garage, but then again I don't leave the door open and unlocked like some sort of savage.

Set up a ride today with some of my buddies that starts in Cambridge, NY - goes into the Green Mountains of VT and back. It's 107 miles with 9100 feet of climbing, about 75 miles of it are on dirt. It's going to be ******g epic.
Also - have this tomorrow:

I'm taking the R3, it's only like 20 miles of dirt. Hopefully the rain we get overnight doesn't soften it up too much or it's going to be a rough day.

I have a den/library. off the foyer. It's my bike room. Small rollaway tool box. Bike stand, shelving unit for parts. Bikes. Etc.
When I was married my lightspeed was hung from the garage ceiling. The youngsters left the big door open one evening.. He lost a real nice Trek mountain bike, She lost a Walmart mountain bike. My bike moved into the house after that.

Then it wasn't even 12:30 yet, so I figured I might was well install the bars.

Problem is, my headlight only lasts 3 hours. Though maybe that would be enough, what with it being nearly the Solstice.
