Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Get a couple lengths of rope. Throw 'em over a couple of ceiling joists (or bottom chords or whathaveyou) and suspend the bike by the saddle and handlebar.

May have to remove a car and possibly parts of the garage ceiling (if so equipped).

If you were a cyclist prone to kidney stones, you wouldn't scoff at heavy water consumption on long summer rides.

Trust me.

Back in that day, 20 miles would be an unusually long ride for me.

Oooh, French Navy aviators firing Exocets in training exercises! Much more exciting than the local fighter wing's posts.

Dont have to remove any ceiling. Just screw eye bolts into joists, and run the rope thru them.

Awww, sorry. So much for that “second happiest day” of boat ownership, right?

While racing is off for the foreseeable future, LSS and I have had a wonderful day-sailing season and have been getting out for some overnights during the week. She is at her absolute happiest driving that boat and, especially now, I’m trying to make that happen as much as possible. I hope she can recover from her impending surgery in time for September cruising.

That’s what I always hoped for, but after 20 years of boat ownership my wife never put much effort into learning how to handle the boat. She doesn’t even want to go anymore, and just complains when she does. Time for it to go and close that chapter.

Hope you and LSS have a great summer together, and that her fight is easy and successful.
