Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Might not be wise given his travel companions.

I say he fake a medical emergency and have them land the plane. Think of the headlines.

Same, and Mrs. Ksryder employed a similar strategy.

Now that I'm older I've had several moments where I suddenly recall some situation from my young and single days and realize "oh she was coming on to you" or even worse "oh that was a booty call". Feels bad, man.

Looks like the Powerhouse is closed now too, but it also looks like they ruined it by cleaning it up a few years ago anyways. RIP. When I last went in the early aughts it was still very gritty and had Milwaukee's Best on tap.

I used the "Four Seasons" in that post to play on the words.

I've had some good experiences at Four Seasons properties, but only rarely stay in them since they are pretty spendy. We usually stay at Marriott properties and occasionally a Ritz Carlton which is part of the family. Gotta get those Bonvoy points!

Our last big trip was in August 2019, when we went to Anguilla for our 25th. Stayed for two weeks at the Four Seasons in a suite. That was really nice, although it was a huge splurge. Had I known I would lose about a third of my business less than a year later, I may not have done that.

Easy to look back and recall all the missed opportunities. If only I knew then what I know now.

Couple of years ago we went to Key Biscayne Ritz Carlton for a few nights. It was in October and we had a giant suite for a whopping $189 a night. Agree, I'm a slave to the points. Looking at a job prospect that may have me spending 60 nights a year on the road, will like the free nights that gets me.

Amoeba Records is still open, datlas ! If you haven't been to a gigantic record store in a while, you're in for a treat. Buy some fresh wax and ship it back east.

That's a great rate!

We were supposed to go on a sailing trip in the BVI a few years ago, but Hurricane Irma rolled through the week of the trip. We cancelled the sailing trip two days before we were supposed to fly out, and changed our destination to San Francisco since we had the time away already on the calendar. Since it was so last minute, we got a similarly great rate at the Ritz there. They have a nice product.

I've have some of those, but I wouldn't chalk it up to a general inability to read cues - I was just inexperienced/ignorant. There was one time that I deliberately "didn't pick up on" a booty call, though; she was one of three female roomies and a little too promiscuous for my sensibilities, at the time, so I thought it better to look oblivious than to be like, "nah, thanks though."

Ahead of the road trip, I got the oil changed yesterday. This morning, I noticed a fresh, pancake-sized oil spot on the garage floor when I backed out.

I looked and didn't see any obvious source, but with the oil leak last year, one likely caused by over-tightening of the filter housing, it was grimy enough that it'd have to be really obvious. Anyway, took it back in to the shop and they say that it was a pinched oil filter housing gasket and that it should be all good, now.

Yeah, I'm not going to comfortable embarking on a 3k mile road trip with just that assurance, so Imma get under there and clean up the gunk, so that any new leaks will be a little more obvious, and then I'm going to keep some paper under the engine when it's in the garage, to make any drips obvious. *le sigh*

Pack a filter, wrench and quart for the trip just in case.

I rode up to that spot earlier this year. Some fun riding if you like steep climbs but a lot of city riding to and from. And people, you better like lots of people.

I think his idea of climbing in the Santa Monica mountains is better.
