If it helps with the timeline, the sticker that I posted (white bike) is on a 1975 Raleigh Grand Prix Mixte.

I bought this earlier this week, and it is a total mystery. Some of you California folks might be able to provide an assist. Let me take you back to 1962 . . . Pasadena. Acme Bike Shop at 1629 E. Washington Blvd. Ring any bells?

Once you've solved that for me, teach me about the brand Alpha, because my friend Google knows nothing of it.

Oh, and here's a bonus. Not mine, but I found it on a 3-speed Columbia at the LBS yesterday - The Handlebar Bicycle Shop.

The Van Schendel brothers, Albert and Antoon, were Dutch professional riders who lived in France and were part of the first Dutch team to participate in the TdF in 1936. Their careers were cut short by WWII, and after that they opened a bike shop in Toulouse, France. During their careers they've always ridden for France Sport.

Apparently this bike came from their shop.

Spain and a Spanish Colony

Here are a couple from bikes I picked up recently... I couldn't find anything about Marniher in Spain (I think this bike was bought in the 80s), but I did find this quote about La Paz in Mission Viejo (and this one was bought in the 70s)... "They were located in a shopping center at the intersection of La Paz and Marguerite behind the Burger King. It was run by an older British couple and their son. The head mechanic had a sweet mustache and a cool Buick Grand National."

A Moto Grand Jubilé from Ray Florman's A-1 Bicycles in St Louis. Raysport refers to the frames associated with the shop.

If they put it on the door rather than putting it in the trash it was of value to them.

This was on a Lejeune tandem I bought. Shop was still active when I checked on it a few years ago.

I'd like to see more photos of this Alpha. My guess is it was made by one of the big BCC factories (Hercules, Philips, Norman) or possibly Raleigh. Need to see the lugs, rear dropouts, etc.

Thanks for the offer to take a deeper look. I’ll be with the bike Monday and should be able to post pics then.
