Powered Up (no, not an e-bike)

I’ve been wanting to try a power meter for several years now, and last night I finally got a deal on a set of Favero Assioma Duo pedals. I’m planning on taking my first lunchtime lap with the pedals today. Fairly sure I have them sync’d to the Wahoo Bolt, not sure about all of the settings yet.

I’m sure I will have questions, which have hopefully already been answered in other previous threads. And I will be watching videos from several youtubers (dcrainmaker, gpllama, others).

I had a pair of shoes with Look cleats, but learned last night that the cleats were the wrong version. Fortunately the guy I bought the pedals from included some cleats, so all set for now.

Thanks. Now when I’m watching some video and the person states they were riding at 300 watts I will have something to compare that to.
These are from my 12 mile lunch loop yesterday. Not sure if I trust the max number since the graph looks like a spike at that point.

Based on that avg power and intensity factor of nearly 0.9, I'd say your ftp is set too low in the Wahoo Bolt's settings. So some good news!

Otherwise, that left right balance is unreal close to 50/50 for such a low average power. As in really good balance. More good news if correct.

I'm used to folks usually getting closer to 50/50 the closer to and longer they spend near threshold. Usually the balance suffers at lower power.

I just checked the Bolt’s settings and it looks like FTP is set at 200 watts.

I guess I need to do an FTP test, time to read how to do that.

edit: found this on the Wahoo blog pages, looks like Monday lunchtime will be a test day.

Don't do an FTP ready for at least two weeks. First, ride around the way you normally do, (1) collecting data on how you currently use power on a bike, and (2) getting more familiar with what the numbers mean.

You said you've gained some context for when somebody says they were doing 300w and what that feels like. Keep doing that. You're bringing your sense of perceived exertion up to speed, teaching it a new language. That takes a little bit of time.

Right now, see if your Wahoo can show you 3, 10, and 30 seconds (average) power. Make the 3 second reading say 300w, then make the 30 second one say the same thing.
