This happened just this afternoon:https://fabb-bikes.blogspot.com/2012/...ls-church.html

This is about an hour away from me. I am north of DC. Falls Church(VA) is just south of DC. I had to go near there, to get to a biking event last week, and I have often gone through the Fort Myer U.S. Army Base to take a short cut to get down to Shirlington(VA) for a club bike ride.

RIP Elizabeth P. Shattuck, 58

I woke up to hear on the radio that an area bike commuter, Bradley Murray, was killed early Sunday morning. Not many details are available yet besides he was driving home from a late shift at Frito Lay when he was hit on the shoulder of Upper Court Street (which is part of US Rt 11) in Kirkwood. The driver of the car had a previous convicted of a DWI within 10 years so he was automatically charged with a felony. I'm not real familiar with that area as it is on the other end of the micro-metropolis that is Binghamton NY but from memory it does seem to have some wide shoulders, but it also is a high speed road (depending on where he was hit, when it gets more commercial the speed limit drops). No news if the cyclists had lights on or reflective gear. I don't know Bradley, but it sure is sad news. Here is one story on the crash: https://www.pressconnects.com/article...arged-with-DWI

Rest in Peace, Ms. Diane Sullivan, age 48. She died yesterday on a very poor bike lane design in the city of San Francisco. I lived about 3 blocks away and it touched me deeply. This accidental death could have been avoided if the city cares more about its people. I wrote an article about it.

Jesus Antonio Hernandez, 23 of Silver Spring, Maryland

Last night (March 10) at approximately 9:08 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire & Rescue responded to the intersection of Silver Spring Avenue and Fenton Street for the report of a collision. Preliminary investigation by patrol units indicated that the bicyclist was northbound on the sidewalk of the southbound side of Fenton Street and was approaching Silver Spring Avenue. A 2004 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Silver Spring Avenue and was approaching Fenton Street on a green light. The bicyclist entered the intersection on a red light and collided with the Corolla. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rest In Peace Benjamin Mok Chee Kong, 35 of Singapore. Some of you may have read his blog https://pedaldamnit.blogspot.sg/ He was involved in a hit and run accident on 21 March 2010 at 9.25pm.

Ben Mok suffered severe head trauma, collapsed lung and shattered hip. He was in coma for 3 days before he died from his injuries. His bike was a mangled heap from the impact. The driver, Dr Teo Tiong Kiat, 64, had hit Ben and another cyclist, and drove off, leaving his licence plate at the site of the accident. He returned half an hour later probably to retrieve his licence plate. By then the police and ambulance were at the scene. The police detected the smell of alcohol on him and he had a flushed face and bloodshot eyes. He claimed that he had one glass of wine during dinner. IMO, one glass of wine doesn't make you reek of alcohol or flushed face and bloodshot eyes. The damage on his car was severe - the windscreen was cracked, the roof and hood of the car was dented. He claims that he did not know that he had hit someone that is why he drove off.

Anyway after more than 2 years of dragging through the courts, the verdict is finally out. Dr Teo Tiong Kiat admitted that he fell asleep at the wheel. He was sentenced to 4 weeks jail and banned from driving for 5 years.

Robert Tschabrun, 71, a dentist from Stanley Wisconsin was killed June 1. The driver of the car called a friend to pick her up and left the scene. According to another news source, Robert was wearing a helmet that was equipped with a flashing light that was still operating upon finding him laying in the ditch. Bicycle parts were scattered across the road. She has a long record, including multiple OWIs, and driving without a license or insurance. This is a quiet, rural area with minimal traffic. I will refrain from voicing my opinion of this woman. RIP, my fellow Wisconsin cyclist.

Blog post about the tragic death of Bobby Cann. By all accounts Bobby was a model of safe cycling who was killed by a drunk driver. Driver's web company was unironically named "allyoucandrink.com".

Lost a good man last night (5 June). Former member of my team. Gentleman.

Colin Robertson

Killed in a collision with a truck while out on an early evening training ride near Hong Kong Airport.

Leaves behind a wife and young son.

Great athlete - almost made the Scotland team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games (not bad when you consider he had a full time job in international finance and was living in Hong Kong, thus necessitating travel to the UK for any key selection races).

Local news report complete with animated recreation.

Crying again.

His final Facebook post (obviously from his wife).

"We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and help at this time of struggle. I leave you with this last view of my love, after he had passed away last night. This will be also the last post. Take care and ride safely."

His wife is in the fashion industry and I can only presume that she sketched this at the hospital.

ModoVincere, one of our family here on BF has passed away. He had a heart attack on his trainer. He added a lot to the forums and was one of my favorite foils in P&R and he will be missed.
