Personally, I would stick with the Hard Rock. I like the sleaker steel tubing rather than the oversized aluminum tubing on the GT.

Unless there's really something you like about the GT, I don't think you'd get your money's worth out of the GT.

I agree with thorstein, for what it's worth; stick with the steel.

Good to know. I just love the look of the GT. May be worth keeping my eye out for a steel-framed triple triangle instead.

Of course, there's no rule against having two bikes. Ask anyone around here.

I like the look of the Hardrock. The GT proportionally doesn’t look right to me but whichever feels best and speaks to you personally would be the correct one to choose.

Nice. What color(s) do you have in mind? And what bag is that under your saddle?

I’m not quite sure yet. I think I’m leaning towards a moss green or a sky blue.

The bag is an old military surplus bag. I made a few buckled leather straps to match my Gilles Berthoud bag, which I used to attach the bag to the seat rails.

I vote moss green! Right now, it almost has a desert sort of feel, except for the fork. Make sure and show us when it's finished, it's going to look great!

This is my old MTB with new upright bar ready to be used on the streets (at least if there is enough light and no rain :-) ).
I've noted that now that the riding position is more erect, the saddle is not as comfortable as before.
I'm probably going to change it with a city bike saddle with springs.

1993 Wheeler 6600 Comp-Line Street Conversion

I recently horse-traded for this bike with a friend of mine. It's in pristine condition, must have been sitting somewhere for a very long time. Here is the photo from the CL ad:

This riding position was a bit too extreme for my liking, so I converted it with a SOMA Mustache II handlebar and proper Deore XT thumb-shifters with separate Pro Max brake levers:

The riding position isn't exactly what I would call "upright", but it certainly fits the "Urban Bike" category of this thread.

I posted a more detailed technical description of my mods over on the Vintage MTB thread, so I won't bore you with it here. Suffice to say it was quite a challenge, as the fork steerer was some kind of hybrid threaded/threadless 1-inch O.D. thing that I have never seen nor even heard of before. It took some creativity to come up with a solution for that. As they taught us in the Corps: "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome".

The ride is incredible; comfortable enough while still retaining the original razor-sharp handling. I really like the Mustache handlebar. And of course the Deore LX/XT drivetrain is flawless. I'll be commuting a lot on this bike. Although it's not my prettiest, it is definitely my sportiest ride at the moment. I'll post it again when I have some better photos to show you.

Have never seen one, before. From specs out there it looks like it's a lugged Tange tube set with a triple-butted Tange fork. Probably does ride pretty well.

Looks pretty nice.

Thanks, @Clyde1820. Yeah, it rides pretty well. But in this configuration it seems to constantly be goading me to ride faster-faster-faster! I probably needed a bike like this. I can't take my Bianchi out on our pot-holed roads without worrying I'll flat or bend a rim. Gotta stick to trails with that one. So I guess this is my fast City-Racer now. I'll need to build up my core muscles to give my wrists a break!

Here's another shot I took during a break today. Double G&T on the patio of the Fireside Lounge in West St. Paul:

Excellent bike, excellent weather... awesome day. Stay away from your TVs folks. Do this instead.

Ah. German. They look nice.

It could be like pants and scissors; at some point in history they were two separate items.

After reading through this thread I have decided that Velo Orange Milan is what I want for my trek 850. But everywhere I look says they are out of stock.
Are they out of business or just hard to get?
Any good substitutes? Sunlite North Roads seem to have a bit more sweep than I want.

It's because "handlesbar" just doesn't sound right.

Right?

They're not out of business, it's the same supply chain issues that have been affecting everyone.
