This was his preferred spot if I was sitting on the sofa. I was the only one who could sit still for hours on end, so I "won" the dog normally. He craved constant human contact, and was always ready for a snuggly nap. Had no tolerance for horseplay however. My son and I were quickly scolded by him if we engaged in any sort of wrestling or goofing around.

Sadly we lost him Tuesday evening in a freak driveway accident. It was tough, but we got to say goodbye as we attempted to save him.
He had a good 11 years at our house, but it was/is tough to see him go like that.
Ryder was a rescue animal, having been found in a cornfield by a FedEx driver, in a box full of his siblings. He was the only one who survived. He and our youngest son bonded immediately.
He was a generally a dick, but quite lovable and affectionate. We were glad to have provided him a loving home, but I sure had hoped to have him around awhile longer.
It's actually quite difficult to see pics of him right now.

Enter Cookie, a rescue Pit mix. Very different than Winnie. Most of the time very mellow. A little love muffin. Giving me a kiss after a sweaty bike ride.

Sorry Guys

They are family at it takes a while to get over. When our terrier mix Squirt died, it was really hard on us all. It was 4 or 5 months before we even considered getting another shelter dog (Jazz). Both terrier mixes but so different in many ways. Squirt was influenced by a older cat when he came to us palm sized, and ended up with a lot of cat traits

I've actually avoided this thread for a few days, we lost our beloved friend Shep in February. It was his time and he passed surrounded by his "pack" giving him love. He was loyal and loving and kind, we rescued him when he was about 6 months old and he was with us for nearly 12 years. When people asked me about his breed I would say 50% lab, 50% Shepard 50% Goof. He was always happy to see you and an unrepentant con man at the coffee shop where he would give strangers the sad "no one loves me" eyes to cage treats, He was occasionally the assistant wrench..

Our "little" beagle mix Pixel. She's pretty sure that I should be paying attention to her instead of lacing up a wheel or recabling brakes. She loves to try to catch the end of bar tape when I'm wrapping handlebars.

She loves people, just ask @USAZorro or @Ex_Pres - they can confirm this if you have any doubts.

We lost our lab mix early in 2017 and our Golden Retriever went into a funk. So, last summer we got a rescue Great Pyrenees mix. Not sure what the mix is because the Pyr traits definitely rule - loud bark, protecting the property and shedding huge amounts of white hair. That said, he is pretty mellow and sweet.

We don't have a dog any more.

Every day, while I ride my bike to work and back, I pass through an area of Riverside Park in NYC where people let their dogs off. It's not legal, but the dog owners are good. They let their dogs off only if their dogs are trustworthy. I pass a lot of dogs playing and doing whatever dogs do. Maybe I should take pictures. They make me happy.

This Chico. He is part Chihuahua and Dachshund. He prefers walks, but is up for a ride around the neighborhood or to the dog park every once in a while.

Every day, while I ride my bike to work and back, I pass right by the vet clinic where we euthanized Abbey with cancer 3-years ago. I can't say it makes me happy, but it does make me remember her.

My greyhound adoption group just got a truckload of 27 new dogs ready to find their forever homes. The rescue lady in Colorado delivers them to us 4 times per year and all the members get weepy with joy.

Hard to say on the other breed. The vet thought maybe Golden Retriever. He is a little over a year old. He and his brother were found running loose in a field outside Wenatchee WA and a local Pyr group rescued him. He's our third Pyr. The first was a 85lb female rescue and the second was a 140 male we adopted from an elderly couple that couldn't keep him. Unfortunately, he roamed a lot like Pyrs do and we had to give him away before our neighbor shot him ... because that's just the way she is.

What do you do when a magnificent specimen goes to the "pound" in the sky?

If it makes you feel any better, it's a trick photo. The dog had stuck his head through a hole in the fence.
