Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That works. It does drain the phone battery but only an issue for really long rides.

I only bought a computer 2 years ago, before then used Strava app on iphone which is adequate to track rides.

I think buying two pairs of Assiomas and performing the xpedo mtb pedal hack would cost the same, would probably be more dependable, and makes switching bikes a total non-issue.

In my ute (pre-8 years old), we grew and butchered our own chickens. My job was to pull them out of the pot of boiling water and pluck them. Gizzards and livers were part of the general diet. And necks! Who wants the neck?! I never did like the neck.

It is not uncommon for me to quote and then delete. I don't realize how stupid it is until I see it in print.

Fun stuff - I hadn't seen that one before, but I'd seen some that were similar.

I was traveling in Belize with a guy who ordered blood sausage for breakfast. I had never heard of it and couldn't watch him eat it.

My favorite food in the meat category, as a ute, was speck. Pennsylvania Dutch for the fat around the edge of the pork chop.

I was perusing the Facebook Marketplace, and I saw a listing for "Vintage Bianchi Steal Bike". It was priced at $300, which isn't much of a steal for that bike.

It sounds horrible, but... It. Is. The. Best. If I was okay with dying prematurely, I'd use it as a butter substitute.

Then again, butter is something like 80% fat, so maybe not too far off.... hmmmmm...

All this talk of offal is making me hungry for a steak and kidney pie. or maybe a black pudding. or possibly even both. It does make my lunch of cheese and crackers seem inadequate.

I spent summers and holidays with my grandparents and I did the same for my grandmother. We had this cast iron cauldron over a fire in the wood lot and my grandmother would boil the water and kept poking the hens down with an old worn out mop. Like you, I had to pluck away when ready.

Just had what LAJ might call a “bag of nopes” moment watching a video on how to replace the drum bearings on our clothes washer. Gonna be expensive.
