Okay, And yeah, being in a fairly flat area, I use the big ring a good 98% of the time.

Guess I'll add a chainring to the list for the next bike crap order.

The CAAD i can legitimately say I wore out the tires, they only had a couple hundred more miles on them, and I def contributed to wearing out the groupset, I think old man time helped more than me though.

I totally Strava-stalked those of you who I follow just now looking at how many miles some of you have on your bikes.

I do that occasionally with sweet potatoes. They are best caramelized and blackened at the edges.

As many others have pointed out, the most important thing there was validation and bragging rights for the parents. The kids and their lives were obviously secondary considerations.

Yes, and on some level I get it, but... I also just can't. My mother's comment on the whole thing was that she couldn't imagine having so little faith in her children that they couldn't just get into a good school on their own merits.

A couple of years on the primary bike is 6-7k per year, so that falls in line with WhyFi thinking. That includes racing and training. I'm always above 8,000 a year, but don't differentiate between bikes. Plus, I run Red rings, and can find those at a fairly reasonable price, so I think I change them more often than I even need to.

I'm trying to plan out a southwesterly 100k for this Saturday. I'd really like to ride down to Oregon and have lunch at a dam or a state park with a bluff overlook of the Rock River, but I'm starting to think maybe that won't be the best idea when it's going to be the nicest day so far this year and SIP orders are still active. The park I want to ride at is actually supposed to re-open tomorrow after being closed for a while.

I suppose I can finish the route planning and save it for later.

I think you should get at least 25K miles from a chainring. Maybe 50K. At least for me, they take forever to wear out.

Even cassettes give me 10-15k miles.

I do replace chains when worn to 0.1%, which is roughly every 3500 miles.

My bike is a triple and the middle ring is it 90% of the time. I replaced it at about 15,000 miles. The teeth were fine. What wore was the lifting pins that latched onto the chain. They were viseably worn and causing erratic shifting in front.

roasted with olive oil, salt, pepper and chopped, fresh thyme and/or rosemary. Quarter them if they are large. Halve if somewhat small. You can’t mess it up, and the house will smell great.

Maybe, but I wouldn't want to make that assumption to make about them. They're almost all still vulnerable and innocent under the exterior at that age, even the ones who do the dumbest or most dangerous stuff. I can't see these kids as anything but victims, and all the more if they've been warped to the point you suggest.

For Yukon golds I like to dice 'en into 3/8" cubes, boil 'til mostly done, then toss in a big skillet with equal parts bell peppers of various colours and onion (sweets or whites preferably), plus garlic, salt, and pepper.

Like others here I also love the rosemary action. We are caretakers of the mother of all rosemary plants, so we'll never run out...

You've got that right. I hold that such people are borderline sociopaths with little self dissipline and they raise their kids to be the same. If you want to know someones character, observe how they behave if they believe no one is looking.
