You do get that pros ride carbon wheels. At high speeds. Down twisty mountain descents. Right?
Question for anyone other than the OP:
When was the last time you heard of a rider in the pro peloton experiencing anything even approaching what the OP is talking about? I definitely can't come up with anything. Only CF wheel failure that immediately comes to mind in the last decade is when Cav's front wheel (was it Cav's?) got turned, causing it to buckle and basically highside him. But at the speed they were going, I don't think any wheel was going to withstand that change in lateral load.

I don't agree that what the OP is saying is true, but would say that it's mostly unlikely in most cases to know whether or not a rim was damaged or not after a flat in the tour, because the rider typically just gets an all new wheel from the support van. If anybody wants to run a test of riding bare rims without tires, CF vs Alloy, to see which damages first, please post the video :-)

We may never agree regarding the great Carbon debate nor Disc brake drama however can we just stop with this stupid "Assplosion" saying. Not sure if the intent is to be humorous but really, it just sounds dumb.

I would say it's far more important to buy a reputable brand of bike regardless of frame/component material. Alloy, steel, titanium and carbon bikes are all perfectly safe if designed, manufactured and built properly. Carbon has been mainstream now for a couple of decades. There's nothing to be nervous about.
