KoolStop - fun fact…

…their HQ is 7 miles from my house (which I was completely oblivious) and my first order directly from them had a handwritten note inviting me to take a tour. H*** yeah I’m gonna do that!! Any other PDX dwellers wanna join in?

That’s actually pretty cool of them. I’d also love to go, if it were local to me.
Have fun!

Wow, I'm out of town next week, riding down to FauxRoica. When were you planing on going? I work a couple of miles from there, could easily swing by!

Very cool, almost worth the 3hr drive down from Tacoma. I expect to see whatever photo's they allow you to take.

Very cool!

My son just mentioned yesterday about applying for a job at Enve. I was like, "Do it!", as I thought about employee discounts on wheels. LOL!

Let me know when you plan to go. If it’s not a Thursday, I’m in.

Here’s my Kool Stop fun fact....their products are my preferred brake pads but sometimes I can’t always find them in local shops. So prepandemic, when I was short of free shipping from a U.K. mail order firm, I saw my favorite model of Kool Stop on sale at the site and added a couple of pair to the order. Got my free shipping, order arrived in a few days. The brake shoes in the order were made 6 miles from my house. They took about a nine thousand mile route to get to me. Something is wrong with a system like that.

Maybe that’s like cheap airplane flights that bounce you all over and take 9 hours for what would normally be a 2 hour direct flight. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Roll call please!

I set up an appointment at Kool Stop in oh-so swanky Lake Oswego, OR for Weds the 22nd at 11:00. First 4 people (keeping it manageable) to reply in the affirmative are welcome to tag along. We could adjourn for lunch at a location TBD.

After the tour I decided I'll never buy another set of rim brake pads again unless they're from Koolstop! They do everything in house - machine molds, mix their proprietary rubber, even packaging and shipping. The few things they outsource are local. Chinese spies have tried to act as tourists to see how they do things. American and proud of it. They will do very short runs of rare pads to fill a need if necessary. Shimano may discontinue a brake, but Koolstop still has the pads.

Tim gave us a wonderful tour, no pictures allowed, of course.

Sounds like it was a neat tour. How big is the facility, just out of curiosity?
