Considering I bought 4 bikes since the beginning of Covid for less than €100 ($120) combined I think not. I should probably sell a few to make some room.

Yes. I realized I was on the road to recovery when I could start turning down desirable bikes in my size. That happened some years ago. Nowadays I'll drag home something if I think it needs to be saved or if someone here mentions they want it but I'm not doing it to make money. No more 25"/64cm bikes, either. I've got to get real about this shrinking in my old age, so if I find a decent tourer in 60-62cm I'll get it but nothing else appeals to me. Might even be time to sell my tall bikes.

I am a “collector “ by nature. I have been since I was a kid, coins, Dinky Toys, Corgi Toys , baseball cards, comic books.....well you get the picture. I haven’t bought a bike in quite a while . Does it mean I’m cured? Time will tell. That’s why I like this forum, I feel normalized! Right now I have bikes I could only dream of owning in the seventies .

It happened one day when I needed a replacement rear derailleur. When I went on eBay, I discovered it wasn’t that easy to find that derailleur in the condition I wanted.
Today I probably have 8-10 of that same rear derailleur. If I see another excellent one at a good price, it’s just one more.
Same thing happened when I needed to replace a freehub body, I don’t have 8-10 of the same one, but I have at least a couple replacements for each hub.
A half dozen Onza 26” mtb tires, extra hubs, rims, shifters, chainrings; and the list goes on.
For me it is not about bargain bikes, it’s about bargain parts. I cannot possibly live long enough to wear out my stash of backups.

Bargain? I vaguely remember those. I may have seen one, like a year and a half ago.
I am down to four bikes, plus one up for sale. I just sold one this past week. It was (is) a great bike. And it's a great feeling to see it among the collection of its new owner.
I just don't ride enough to justify having five bikes. One always feels left out. Four is a really good number. One more than perfect. One more than holy.
Four also is a small enough number that I can still shop for a project. To flip of course. I still love to wrench. And polish. Or, I guess, if it happens to be really sweet, maybe it could replace one of the four. I'm always looking...

This is where I'm at. Currently have six bikes. One will be selling in the near future, and one will be the winter project, which will be selling when I'm done with it. Which will leave me with four.

I'm down to a barely managable 20, from 30+ this spring. I got carried away with buying cheap flips during covid and my market was not very good this year. So my criteria is starting to change, I've passed by several good deals lately.
My normal MO is I'll buy anything quality for less than $40-50. If it's something esoterically cool, my size, or has valuable parts, I'll go $100-150. Above that, it has to be really, really special.

I saw a Schwinn Voyageur SP with Campy for 350 on Facebook. I already have a Schwinn Passage touring bike that is set up nice just needs a saddle. The Voyageur sold , now I wish I would have moved on it 🤭😄🥸

Sometimes I'm tempted by bargains, but having moved about so frequently the last 15 years, I've learned my lessons about accumulating stuff. Having less stuff makes me more agile if some opportunity should arise.
In the early days of the pandemic, I had an offer to move back to Europe, which was quickly put on hold and later cancelled. While everything was up in the air, I stopped all discretionary purchases that wouldn't be easy to move.

Sometimes Bargains usually turn into money pits. After replacing 2 old tires and tubes, Handle bar tape, dry rotted brake hoods, a new chain , dried up brake pads ,etc,etc,etc. That bargain isnt really a bargain anymore.

I'm trying to get down to the 10 bikes that I like to ride. Getting rid of the ones that I bought to sell or were "good deals".
My niece is an avid cyclist with a MTB, road bike and around town hybrid. She's been nagging me about how many bikes that I have because she doesn't want to get stuck having to get rid of N+ DON'T ASK! if I check out prematurely.
A few weeks ago I took her to a bike swap and she realized how much fun it can be selling stuff!
So look for some interesting bikes and stuff listed in the C&V For Sale Forum from Chas.
