Bridgestone T-700 1985

Another Bridgestone redemption. [just posted more photos below] Looked like it was barely ridden. Had a lot of dust and surface rust, which came off easily. Was happily surprised that it had sealed hubs and didn't need any repacking. The original Bridgestone tires had no wear but the gum rubber had rotted away. The original deerhead superplate rear derailleur was causing chain to skip on the smallest rear cog. I think it was the body spring but it was stronger than the spring in the replacement derailleur (Shimano Acera, ugly but functional and inexpensive with my rebate from REI.) New brake levers. Replaced saddle and stem (gave me 1" higher bars). I didn't feel it was completely finished until I added some handmade leather bar wraps. Long term plans are to go cross country, which what it was made for. Bought it on E-Bay for $263, which I thought was a fair price, although one person thought it was a steal. A 19" frame (which fit me perfectly) is hard to come by.

Would like to get the rear derailleur working but have not found a solution on this forum. It has one pump peg on the top tube, but I can't figure out how a pump would attach on the other end.

How dare you tease us like this with a resto thread with only 2 photos! Blasphemy!

But the bike does look really nice now.

The pump handle will have a small hole/indent to rest on the peg, the pump head will be made in a way that it can be wedged at the top tube/seat tube joint.

I would also like some more pictures- Drive side please!!! And close ups!!!

IMO- 1985 is the high point for the "grand touring" bicycle. I mean, there were really really nice ones (and truth be told "better" ones) later- but 1985 was the end of the across the board 'top of the line prestigious tubing with top of the line components' flagship level tourer. After that- the ATB/MTBs were the focus.

I've always been intrigued about these- I'm hoping to see more pix of yours!!!

Thanks. I was thinking something along those lines. I just looked up modern frame pumps and at least some have that type of feature.

More pictures, as promised. Is this too many?

Wish I could get the deerhead RD running. Scoured the forums, didn't find a solution.

Not at all!!! MORE!!! MORE!!!

I think you made some really nice choices on there- LOVE the leather tape- is that stitched along the ends? It looks cool! Again, great choice with the brake levers too!

Although I think the Acera is at best anachronistic for the bike- My wife has a bike with one- and she's NEVER had any trouble with it at all. Besides that, I think Grant Peterson loves those lower end 15T derailleurs. I'd look for a cool 1985-1993-ish derailleur- Suntour XC, M730-M735 Deore XT, Suntour XC Pro/XC Comp- but that's just me being dorky.

Cool bike and great job with it!!!

Thanks! I made the leather tape myself. It's not stitched along the edges. For each side, I cut two strips of vegetable tanned leather 1.25" x 42", and sewed the ends together for one piece 84" long. I could have just used one 84" piece of leather, but that would make the rest of the leather (one full side) less usable for other projects. It's similar to the bar wrap offered by Walnutstudiolo.com.
