SRAM red etap rear derailleur broken pin

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM red etap rear derailleur broken pin

Hi

My rear derailleur started shifting intermittently since charging the battery last time around. Looking at the battery connection area, I saw that the left pin was missing and only a part of a spring was apparent, causing a lousy connection.
Any ideas for a fix or should I just get a new derailleur? The bike is over 3 years old so no warranty expected.

Thanks.

I doubt it can be fixed but email Sram to be sure.

It would be interesting to see what comes off if that one screw is removed. There's little hope that sram can help after warranty.

People post about removing and recharging the battery after every ride instead of every two weeks or more. I've warned them that something will wear out prematurely.

If that's an 11 speed RD it will be tough to source a new one and expensive.

That's crazy, I get 700-900 miles between charges.

Sram said no fix available so I ordered a new "old" red etap derailleur from Bike Closet at half price.

Yeah, there's no need to be recharging batteries after every ride. I ride in rolling hills so I shift a lot and I charge no more than every 400 miles.

I think it was last years that SRAM announced they had redesigned the eTap Red 11spd RD to have a part for warranty and repairs. The thing that caught my eye was they added a clutch to the RD at the same time. So I don't think one would have a hard time getting a replacement RD on either warranty or as a purchased part. Side benefit is that it would have a quieter a chain line with their clutch ("ORBIT chain management system" or something like that).
