Can you believe!
Here in sunny sw Wi. it's 63 and I turned off the furnace and opened windows! Good God! It's the middle of feb.. I've lived in Wi for most of my 66+ years and do not ever recall 63 in the middle of feb.. It was a beautiful day for my 3rd ride of the year. As the others, it was a short jaunt around town. Not a long way but progress is made.

It "only" got up to 54°F here in Northern Wisconsin, so we didn't turn off the furnace or open the windows. But I did get in a nice ride to High Cliff State Park. Lots of people still out on the ice on Lake Winnebago (sturgeon season), but at least some of them were pulling their shanties off the ice in anticipation of warm temperatures through the weekend. The campground is still snowed in and unplowed, but I imagine that won't last. Maybe I can hang some laundry outside tomorrow?

Here at the "tip of the mitt" we are feeling the warmup as well. Looks like February is closing out in above freezing temps. The next 5-7 days this snowpak is going to disappear! I'm getting a road bike out tomorrow and next week.

Yeah, I'm glad winter is behind us. Was a long six weeks.

I took my lightweight Rollfast Rosa across town today, even if the sign said 36F by the end of the ride I did not feel like I needed gloves or a hat...still a few tonnes of crappy black piles of soot and gravel covered ice on the roadsides and sidewalks but it was the first time I had rode anywhere in about a MONTH.

It's headed this way and we'll see those temps on Sunday. I agree that it's unusual, but IME not totally exceptional for late Feb.
Sometime back 4 decades or so, I led a 3 day winter ride to the Poconos, where temps are typically 10 degrees or so cooler than here in NYC. We had temps like what you saw today, and ended up doing a ride through areas of melting ice and snow, wearing shorts and tee shirts. Ever since that ride, I look for warm weather for Washington's Birthday, and consider it my official start of Spring.

It's alternative winter this year in Washington. I've ridden back from work in shirtsleeves several times and the studded tires have served no purpose other than giving warning to pedestrians. I expect to have them taken off soon. Sad.

The downside to this weather and its to be warm all week, is that it might bring an early end to the maple syrup season. This requires warm days and cold nights (below freezing) and its only just begun!
