Cononr Harrington returned to the gate he painted in my post above with a new offering.

And I found another one of these string pieces.

This is on a concrete pillar about 10 feet above the ground, and in a tunnel, so I was unable to get bike in shot too.

And this one I snapped over the course of 2 days, catching the artist at work on day 1.....

And it was finished when I rolled past the following day.

One of the things that's come out of this thread that I didn't expect is a demonstration of the fine line (if there even is a line -- it may well be a continuous spectrum) between ordinary graffiti and art, and that's all captured in this one picture. The main work here is obviously art. Some of the panels in the background, which I take to be intentionally cultivated displays, look quite a bit like traditional New York-style graffiti such as I remember seeing on the subway trains during my first visit there in the 80's. And then there's the random spots of spray paint on the ground.

To be honest I've only just noticed that your thread is different to this one that I was posting in before, that said from the outset it was for graffiti and street art pics, So apologies if you wanted your thread to be graffiti only. . https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycl...-graffiti.html

I do post graffiti too, my personal preference is the street art stuff, so I tend to post more of that. I'm sure that artwork will get covered in graffiti or another artwork quite soon, so I always feel lucky if I can get to a pic and catch it while its still 'fresh'. I have to say I admire the dedication to come back and spend 2 days doing a really skilled piece in a public place, knowing that it could get covered in various scrawls or other artworks within hours.

Andy_K it all brightens up dull grey concrete to my eyes, and as you say I'm not sure I can definitively class one or the other. I'm sure there's graffiti artists out there who don't want to be referred to as street artists, and vice versa. It's all self expression in paint I guess. In fact I wonder if on my last pic above, if the painted bicycle on the ground designating a cycle lane, is officially classed as something other than art or graffiti, and its simply classed as signage

No worries. I definitely appreciate the street art. I don't see much of it on my normal bike routes, but I like it when I see it.

A couple of recent ones in response to the war in Ukraine. The text on the bottom left on the first says 'for Ukraine', and I happened to be riding a bike with perfect matching colours today.

And a new Dan Kitchener on Brick Lane that's worth seeing up close.

I found another one of those woollen thread pieces I love...in fact there's a lot going on here...

Marking your territory....

You can barely see my bike in this panorama

And here's a Nina Simone, who was brilliant in the saddening and uplifting film/documentary "A Summer of Soul (...or when the revolution could not be televised)" that I watched last week, which I recommend.

One of the earliest memories I have as a small boy was seeing the original of this mural from the bus on the way to visit my Grandma. Its in Brixton and is called Nuclear Dawn and was originally painted in the early 1980's/ It deteriorated over the years, and after the building it was on was sold locals organised a petition to save it, and last year a group of artists restored it to its former glory. Its based on an artwork of Felicien Rops called 'satan sowing the ryegrass' and reflects the genuine fear at the time of nuclear attack. The bunker in the bottom right corner contains amongst others, Maggie Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and Prince Charles. More info on its history here:Nuclear Dawn mural, Brixton | London Mural Preservation Society

And today I saw these two, the first off which is not related to the above, is about 5 miles away, and is recent, but it could almost be a follow on from the above. The assortment of bins in the foreground I thought was symbolic of us not dying from nuclear waste or fallout. but from suffocating the planet with our own rubbish.

And in a different borough with different bins I'll finish with some uplifting grins from Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong.

Hey, I've seen that bike! Just parked on the street, no idea who owns it or who painted it. More pix:

Taken in 2015 in Seattle. No idea why I didn't take one of the whole bike (sorry!)

I like "street bikes" like that....I think there was a thread here somewhere on BF that focused on messenger bikes. When we were in Fremont last July most of the Lime bikes had tags

I haven't done a boxcar photo in a while ...
