Showing off for my wife when I was teaching her to telemark ski. I was using Fischer 210 cm E99s with lightweight 3-pin boots. I think those picture were taken when I actually had some hair, about 40 yeas ago
I must have been a good instructor because she skis better than me on tele-skis

It's almost time to change back to "Normal" and our XC skiing venue is planning to open on Nov 5th. 
.
Snow is in the forecast for this weekend — up to 6" — and this morning I checked the venue's webcams.
The venue is at 1625 m, the snow level this afternoon is at 1200 m
It's a good start, eh?!!
Riding the bike? Just add one more layer — 5º C ( 41º F) at 09:00 — along with extra "grin and bear".

PS Getting a bit of snow on our Thanksgiving weekend is nothing out of the ordinary.
Note to my fellow Canadians: take it easy on the turkey, eh!

New skis and boots? Now there's a story.
My first pair of no-waxers was the Salomon Elite-9 Grip, however a few years on it took just one pair of demo skin skis to relegate them to "rock skis";
for those seasons when the early snow is not quite the cat's meow.
My equal half was on vacation in Europe and when she returned she decided that she needed a pair of skins, too. She told the salesperson at the shop "So I can keep up with him". The lady just grinned since she knows both of us well enough to also know "that's not gonna happen".
New equipment testing happens on a 1.8+K loop, in my book the only way to find out if the skis fit. And I always buy the recreational model just below racing skis, they are a bit sturdier and not quite as expensive.
Same goes for the boots.
The "Rock Skis" are ready to go, but last week's heavy rain (Thursday and Friday) wiped the snow right off the mountain.
I'm 27 km short of 3000 km for the outdoor season and since it's a perfect day for cycling ..... well....the new target is matching last year's total. Even with two weeks missing, on account of the wild fires, it should be possible.

Start of the XC skiing season delayed by a week. It's that hot air coming from the South that did it.

This is a poor video, but it shows that old guys can still have fun on tele-skiis. I was 70 when my wife made the video.

Opening day at our XC skiing venue.
We're off to a roaring start, haven't found out how many teams showed up, but at least 6 from BC and one from Oregon that I could make out.
The snow? Barely enough and not the best quality, but there is plenty more in the forecast this weekend.
BTW amazing how one gets reminded that classic XC skiing uses a few more muscle groups than cycling.

Looks like you are having a blast. I too love skiing - both types - but like to visit the snow when I want to and not have it visit me where I live, so please moderate your snow enthusiasm.
