I picked up the pictured wool, long sleeved Automatic Holland Jersey at an early season Central Park training race in ~ 1973. From what I can find online, the team existed for at least the 1970 season and perhaps only that season. The jersey's label say Tricots Du Rocher and I believe

it would be considered a size medium. It probably would have the most value for a Dutch cycling fan and perhaps even more so to one of the team members or their descendants. I'm looking for any thoughts on the value of the jersey and how to best put it in front of interested parties.

I'd put on ebay at a high price. It will take a special person that wants it. To that person, it's very valuable. To everyone else, it's just a nice wool jersey. Missing the team logo.

A vintage wool jersey might be worth $50, a special wool team jersey might be $200. Ultimately, the market will decide. I've stupidly sold items like this way too cheap in the past.....

Listing it on Marktplaats is certainly an option. You'll have to create a (free) account and post the ad, but that's it. The biggest hurdle might be that the site is only available in Dutch, as far as I can see. However, Google Chrome does a decent job translating it to English, and I'd be happy to help if needed.

The Automatic-Holland team existed at least into 1972, when they still appeared in the rankings. I don't think they were very successful, though. The team ranked number 15 out of 17 in the 1972 Olympia's Tour of Holland.

Thanks so much for the very informative reply. My Google skills only brought me to the 1970 squad so it's interesting to hear the team existed for at least a couple more years. It would be pleasurable to pass the jersey along to someone with ties to their history. Below are the members of the 1970 squad.

Automatic Holland, BTW, was a coffee vending machine manufacturer. Many companies used them in their offices and factories to provide employees with coffee. In those days there was no such thing as free coffee all day long, so you'd have to buy tokens. If you were lucky your employer would pay for one or two per day.

Every Dutchman above a certain age will recognize these. I am sure I still have one or two in a junk drawer somewhere.

I was curious about the World Champion bands. I glanced at the team palmares and didn't see it obviously claimed. Maybe someone was a junior world champ or something. That does enhance any jersey I think.

My gal pal who is herself a good cyclist asked me " why does the jersey have the World Championship bands"? I'd not considered the possibility of one of the lads having been a World Champion. It is a bit of a mystery.

I've checked the backgrounds of the Automatic Holland riders that I know of, but I can't find a World Champion among them. But the records I've found are incomplete, and I can't imagine a team using the WC stripes without a valid reason.

Anybody know what bikes they rode?
