I’ve been dealing with some issues lately that necessitated a CT scan. One of the incidental findings was an inguinal hernia. I knew that I sometimes have pain but I didn’t think much about it until my family doctor’s nurse called today to tell me that my guy wants to discuss surgery. Crap. We’re entering the perfect Fall riding season and I’m not in the mood for surgery.

That's what I'm hoping. The way the medical system is at the moment, I might not be able to get the surgery before winter anyway.

That said, if you go to a surgeon with an inguinal hernia, it's like going to Midas with a rust spot on your muffler. They are going to pressure you to get a muffler even if the rust won't perforate for years.

I don't know all the details, and you can PM me if you wish, but based on what you are saying here, I would NOT have surgery.

I've watched a 'well man' walk around property with a y shaped stick to determine where a well should be drilled
I had doubts as did others - but it appeared to work
fun factoid - except for a short stint - I've had well water my entire life ...
I should probably be sick or dead from radon (high radon levels are apparently fairly common in houses with well water ?)

There are folks who are reliable with the forked stick. I was taught by an old man and am able to do it, with practice. Not wells, but water lines and other stuff. It's a difficult concept for the Western mind. But if you take the conscious mind out of the equation, anybody can do it. You just have to put yourself in that space. Like meditation.

My goal is to build it up as close to original as possible, by cannibalizing my current, 22" 1989 Circuit. I've gotten that to KIND OF fit, as I mentioned, with a long seat post and 130mm stem. But it's still too small - the saddle-to-bar drop is about 2 cm too much.
So, I'd be taking the original Sante kit off the 22" and building up the 23" with it.

well, I won’t be able to ride much this week or next so the podium will be up for grabs. Let the games begin.
Not the biggest fan of the late sunrise, and I know it will only get worse. Riding in the dark isn’t terrible but the routes I choose to ride usually have me on a bike path at some point. Not only is it pitch black, and kind of creepy the spider webs are the bigger problem. This morning I was completely covered in them. I can start later but that limits my time in the saddle. I want as many outside miles as I can get before Simon is born. I imagine my riding will drop drastically. Perfect timing to prepare for next season.

Ordered a pair of black bontrager velo something shoes. Originally I was going to go with white. My current white bontrager xxx were ruined from last winter. I had tried cleaning them multiple times and they continued to look horrid. I was going to use the new white shoes only in dry conditions and for racing. My wife was not on board with this. Yesterday she cleaned my shoes and they look brand new, so she approved the order of black shoes to be worn in the winter and in the rain. Pretty stoked.

My oldest kid started middle school this week. It’s done a real number on my ability to ride now that she is up an hour earlier than last year. I normally like to be home before the kids wake up, but that means I need to finish my ride by 6.
As a result- I have ten miles so far this week 😢. I fly to Pittsburgh Sunday and am not home until Wednesday afternoon, so mileage next week isn’t looking good either.
