FS - Raleigh Competition MK. II DL165

FOR SALE - $450 SHIPPED in the CONUS, $300 pick up in NYC

This one is from 1976, built by Carlton and featuring a Reynolds 531 frame & fork with Huret dropouts and Bocama lugs. It came into my hands as part of a larger collection of Raleigh bicycles, and it was largely intact, minus the original wheelset, saddle, seat post, shifters and pedals. I gave all the components a thorough scrubbing before reassembly. I added a set of Simplex Criterium shifters, a lovely wheelset with Rigida alloy clincher rims, Maillard hubs, Specialized Turbo 700c skinwalls and a Suntour Winner Pro 6-speed freewheel (13-14-15-16-17-18), Olimpic 74 pedals, ANPI/Cortina 2-bolt seat post in the Campagnolo Record style, an Ideale 39 leather saddle, and fresh Newbaum's cloth bar tape to top it off. I tried to stay as close to the original spec as possible, to create an authentic period-correct restoration. I believe it to be from 1976 as it matches the catalog photo from that year.

click here for a hi-res photo gallery and more info at my blog

Size: 55cm seat tube (measured center-to-center) and a 56cm top tube (also center-to-center). Stand over is 32 inches. The GB stem is 90mm with matching GB 38cm-wide handlebars. The fork clearance is 53mm and the rear clearance is 59mm, so it will fit wide tires or a 650B conversion.

Very nice write up with pics in the hi res photo gallery. These bikes do have room for fat tires. Raleigh must measure center to top as the catalog has this listed as a 22 and 1/2.

Man, I have to tell you I actually really want this, I sold one of these way back and have always regretted it. But it would be pretty dumb of me to buy another bike right now, and I'm out of the city anyway until at least mid October. So tempting, though.

I'll be in the city when you get back (i live here) so if you change your mind, let me know. It's $300 if you pick it up locally, and if you wanted a shorter/longer stem I'd throw that in for free.
