I have recently purchased a 'late 80s' Marinoni Special. The original owner isn't sure exactly when he bought it. If there is a serial number I haven't been able to find it, after a pretty exhaustive search. Any tips?

Contact Marinoni directly. Ask if you can email a few photos to confirm it is a Marinoni. They'll know where sn should be to. I'd be wondering why no sn too.

All three of my Marinoni have had the serial number on the underside of the bottom bracket shell. The characters are smaller than normal, so they don't stand out as much. The first character represents the calendar year of manufacture.

Look under the cable guide under the BB shell. That’s where I found my SN. Ms. Marinoni answered my query very quickly when I asked 8 years ago.

I have looked high and low and everywhere in between and there is no serial number on my Marinoni, unless it happens to be on the underside of the bottom bracket shell and hidden by the shifter cables plastic guide. There is a stamping under the seat stays brake bridge. Other than that, nada. I would love to know the exact year of my bike and perhaps I will pull the cable guide under the bottom bracket shell. But for now, I have searched many times and to no avail...

That picture might be a help in locating my serial number. I am willing to bet that the serial number, on my Marinoni, is hidden under the derailleur guide bracket which is screwed to the underside of the bottom bracket housing. Might as well rebuild the bike while I am at it. When purchased, my Marinoni had just been serviced at a local and trusted bike shop so I never did rebuild anything. It was in perfect mechanical condition "as found" but that does not excuse my not checking to be sure. Time to do so. Yesterday was the first time that I have had the back wheel off...

Thanks all. I contacted Julie at Marinoni, who helped me find the sn under the bottom bracket. It’s a 1987.

I'm pretty sure that I've commented on this bicycle in the past. A Marinoni Piuma with Columbus Foco would be very late 1990s to very early 2000s but the Campagnolo Daytona, if OEM, would a narrow that down to 2000-2001.

I do remember your initial vintage appraisal. My hope was to nail the exact year the bike was made. Your comments, this time, narrow the gap and help me. Thanks you. Also, in another thread you comment on it being third in the line-up. That, too, is valuable information for me. I would not mind getting my hands on a similar vintage top of the line model. That just might prove to be a bit of take it to my grave game changer. None the less, I could not like my Marinoni more. For me, it is just about perfect.
